  • Introduction

The UMBI 2022 CRISPR workshop is tailored to give an overview of the Nobel-prize winning genome editing technology combined with several hands-on laboratory practical. This workshop consists of several lecture sessions that will comprehensively cover the important background and principal aspects of CRISPR technology. These include CRISPR initial discovery as the mechanism of bacteria adaptive immune response, CRISPR repurposing for eukaryotic gene targeting, CRISPR wide range of applications in the field of molecular biology and life sciences, and CRISPR genome editing experimental workflow. The participants will also get hands-on experience as well as tips and tricks from the experts focusing on the key laboratory techniques within this technology.

    When?

    18-20th October 2022
    8.30am – 4.30pm

    Where?

UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI), Jalan Yaacob Latiff, 56000 Kuala Lumpur

    Workshop fees

RM 950 (Non-Student – Scientist, researcher, specialist, academicians, industry partners etc)

    RM 800 (Student)

Fees include workshop materials and meals (3 times a day)

    Why should you join?

    • Learn how to perform CRISPR genome editing experiment using the cost-effective conventional approach without completely relying on the commercial kits.
    • Facilitated by researchers who have extensive CRISPR genome editing with successful results and high-impact publications.
    • Opportunity to perform hands-on laboratory practical; choosing vector system, sgRNA designing and cloning, and delivering into cells. Important tips and troubleshooting strategies for a successful CRISPR experiment will also be shared.
    • Free complete in-house CRISPR guidebook written by the facilitators

    Who should attend?

We welcome all Researchers, Scientists, Postgraduate Students, Application Specialists, or anyone who is interested in learning this CRISPR technology to attend. Although it is not essential, having basic molecular biology knowledge would be an advantage as the course will cover few lectures and practical sessions that are in intermediate-to-advanced levels. Nonetheless, we will accommodate all participants who are keen to join the workshop and learn this CRISPR genome editing technology.

The workshop is limited to only 20 seats

    Past workshop

We had a successful inaugural CRISPR genome editing workshop that was held on the 18-20th November 2019 (Link: https://www.ukm.my/umbi/news/crispr-gene-editing-workshop-2019/). The workshop was attended by researchers and students from local and overseas institutions and has garnered several collaborations with participants who mainly come from the academia. In addition to the active collaboration with local and overseas researchers for CRISPR works, the facilitators have also been invited to give talks in several webinars and pre-conference workshops about this CRISPR genome editing technology.
