His Excellency the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Visits UMBI

UMBI had the honour of hosting the Ambassador of the Czech Republic on the 2nd of June 2014. His Excellency, Mr. Rudolf Hykl was accompanied by his deputy head of mission, Mr. David Jarkulisch. The main purpose of the visit by the ambassador was to explore the possibility of establishing research collaboration between UMBI and one of the leading research institutes in the Czech Republic, the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine (IMTM). The ambassador mentioned that the Minister of Education, YB Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, had recommended UMBI when he met the minister a few months ago. The director of UMBI, Professor Datuk Dr. A Rahman A Jamal, gave a 30-minute presentation on UKM, UMBI and the health campus as well as the research programmes under the research niche ecosystem. Also present at the meeting were the deputy directors of UMBI, the deputy deans and representatives from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences and Faculty of Pharmacy. Mr. Rudolf Hykl was very impressed by the level of research conducted by UMBI and the faculties. Mr. Hykl then visited a few laboratories and the Biobank. The next step forward will be a meeting with the team from IMTM who will be coming in October 2014 as well as preparing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two research institutes.
