UMBI’s New Building is Now Fully Operational

After 10 years operating in a borrowed space (thanks to the management of the UKM Medical Centre) at the 7th floor of the UKM Medical Centre, UMBI finally moved to its new building which is fronting the Jalan Yaacob Latif and opposite the 20-storey Pre-Clinical Building.

UMBI submitted the request for this building during the 9th Malaysia Plan and it took more than 3 years for its completion. The 10-storey building has a foot-print of 80,000 square feet. It has a single corridor on each floor and more than enough of natural lighting for all the laboratories and offices.

Our researchers, staff and students are now working in a more comfortable space and there is enough room for expansion. Each student now have their own assigned laboratory bench space as well as a writing table. We also have enough bench space to cater for a bigger number of undergraduate students for industrial training. UMBI is very popular and have been taking many students, within and outside UKM, and give them the opportunity to do mini-projects in molecular biology.

We would like to invite other researchers to come and collaborate with us or even use our lab facilities and equipments (very competitive rates). For the public, especially for the secondary schools, you are most welcome to bring your students to UMBI for a tour of our facility so that this may inspire the students to take up science as a career (please contact farlizaz@ppukm.ukm.edu.my).
