21 September 2026 – World Alzheimer’s Day

WORLD ALZHEIMER’S DAY

2026 THEME: THE EARLIER YOU KNOW, THE MORE YOU CAN DO. A DEMENTIA DIAGNOSIS MATTERS

What are we celebrating? World Alzheimer’s Day is a yearly celebration as part of the global effort to raise awareness and to challenge the stigma that persists around people living with Alzheimer’s and all types of dementia. Launched by Alzheimer’s Disease International in 1994, this celebration raises global attention to Alzheimer’s and other dementias, honours those affected, and calls for action to support families and improve care.

Theme for this year? Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia is not a normal part of ageing, although it is more common after the age of 65. Early signs may seem small at first, such as forgetting recent events or conversations, losing track of dates, seasons, or getting lost in familiar places. Recognising these changes early can help individuals and families seek medical advice and treatment, and plan for the future together. Thus, this year’s theme highlights the timely and important issue of early diagnosis: “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.” With the hashtags #DementiaDiagnosisMatters, #AlzheimerDiagnosisMatters and #EarlyDiagnosisMatters, every share will help change public perceptions and normalise asking questions to learn more about this health condition.

What can we do to support?
• Learn early warning signs
• Talk openly to reduce stigma
• Support caregivers and families
