UMBI’s Official Research Collaboration Visit to the Institute for Medical Research (IMR)
On 11 April 2025 (Friday), a delegation from the UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI) conducted an official visit to the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) under the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Ministry of Health Malaysia. The visit took place from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and aimed to strengthen research ties and explore potential research collaboration between UMBI and IMR.
Associate Professor Dr. Nor Azian Abdul Murad, Director of UMBI, led the UMBI delegation, which was accompanied by members of UMBI’s management team and Research Fellows. Dr Ami Fazlin Syed Mohamed, Director of IMR, led the IMR delegation, which included senior officers from NIH.
The visit began with formal presentations by both institutions, highlighting their respective areas of expertise, research achievements, and strategic directions. Following the presentations, a bilateral discussion was held to explore potential research collaborations involving five centres of excellence under IMR, namely the Infectious Disease Research Centre (IDRC), Cancer Research Centre (CaRC), Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Research Centre (NMCRC), and Specialized Diagnostic Centre (SDC).
The visit concluded with a mutual agreement on several potential research collaborations and knowledge-sharing initiatives between UMBI and IMR. This engagement also laid the groundwork for joint initiatives aligned with national healthcare priorities and Malaysia’s aspirations in advancing biomedical and molecular biology research. This visit not only solidified the strategic relationship between UMBI and IMR but also marked a promising step towards impactful and sustainable research collaborations in the future.
