UMBI-Myanmar qPCR Workshop 2019

On the 18 – 19 of December 2019, UMBI in collaboration with LAB-IND Resources Sdn Bhd organized a workshop to train researchers from the Department of Medical Research, Ministry of Health and Sports, Myanmar in qPCR technique. This workshop was designed to introduce the basic concept of qPCR, applications and data analysis with much emphasis was put on the hands-on training. The hands-on training comprised of total RNA extraction from colorectal tumor and normal cell lines, cDNA conversion, qPCR reaction optimization and relative quantification of gene of interest followed by data analysis session.

A total of four researchers participated in this workshop. The team from Myanmar was led by Dr. Myat Tin Htwe Kyaw, the Deputy Director & Head of Clinical Research Division. She was accompanied by Dr. Hsu Theingi, the Research Scientist and Ms. Daw Ni Ni Aye, a Research Assistant. In addition, a representative from Nanova Co Ltd, Myanmar, Ms. Khin Soe Win, also participated in this customized workshop.

The participants were divided into two small groups. This enabled the participants to have close and direct interaction with the facilitators and gain complete qPCR hands-on experience. Overall, the participants were satisfied and gave positive feedback on the contents and hands-on training provided.

UMBI would like to extend special thanks to our co-organizer, LAB-IND Resources Sdn Bhd, for their helps in making this qPCR workshop successful. We are looking forward to organizing more qPCR workshops in the future as part of our effort to share our expertise on qPCR technique with researchers in this region.  Since the composition of the drug Viagra includes a mandatory component called sildenafil, the drug itself can significantly increase the level of sexual arousal of any man who has taken the drug.
