The Global Leadership Programme 2020 (U-LEAD) is a ten-day virtual programme that focuses on creating new global leaders. The program focuses on the important issues of leadership and multiculturalism in the era of globalization. The programme creates a platform for a network between the younger generation to build ideas and interact with people of different cultures.

- UKM Global will do application review and clarification.
- The offer of acceptance will be issued out after the selection period.
Requirements and Eligibility
- Undergraduate student.
- Be nominated by the home university.
- Registered as a full-time student at home university.
- Have good English proficiency in both speaking and writing.
- Must agree to abide by the rules and regulations of UKM or hosts.
- Be prepared to follow each scheduled session throughout the programme.

|Associate Prof. Dr. Abdul Latiff Ahmad currently holds the position Director of UKM Global - The International Relations Centre of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He is also a senior lecturer in the Centre of Research in Media and Communication, The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Politics and International Relations from The University of Kent, United Kingdom and his master’s degree from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia. In 2013, he obtained his PhD in Communication Studies from University of Queensland, Australia. He is currently the Malaysian Regional Vice President for the World Communication Association and also a Committee member for the National Strategic Communication Committee under the Higher Education Department of Ministry of Education. Dr. Ahmad is also a Fulbright Alumni.
Dr. Ahmad research interest include intercultural communication and internationalization. He has become principle researcher for various research relating to international student experience, cultural adaptation, identity and new media technology studies. He has become a speaker on matters of internationalization and intercultural communication in various events such as the International Workshop for International Office, SHARE student mobility and alumni workshop, APAIE, Universiti Administrators workshop and etc. He was also the Head of Modules on Effective Communication and Intercultural Communication Skills for the 29th SEA Games Volunteer Training Program in which he and his team trained over 10,000 volunteers. He has headed grants provided by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, Ministry of Sports and Youth Malaysia, UKM and Central Bank Malaysia and has been co-supervisors for research involving Ministry of Women and Family Affairs, UEM, Pintar Foundation and CIMB Bank.
|Brian Masshardt is an Associate Professor in the Global Studies Course of the Faculty of Humanities at Musashi University. He also serves as the director of the university's East Asian Studies Program and is involved directly in partnership building, student recruitment, and curriculum development; as well as academic and personal advising of students in the program. In addition, he has developed and coordinated immersive learning experiences. He is a passionate advocate for learning and a staunch believer in the potential of students. During his 16 years at Musashi he has taught a range of courses related to global and international studies. He obtained his MA and PhD in International Relations from the Department of Political Science at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. He considers himself very much a product of studying abroad as his path to Japan began in 1989 when he studied abroad at the University of Amsterdam. He is developing his skills as educational entrepreneur, enjoys photography, and is an avid runner.
|Rashila Ramli (Prof. Dato’ Dr.) is Principal Fellow, Professor of Political Science, former Director at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS,) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Principal Visiting Fellow at the UNU-International Institute of Global Health. She has a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Illinois, and Master degree in Business management and PhD in Political Science from Arizona. Her areas of specialization are Political Development, Gender and Politics, and Human Security. Her research areas are on the Global ASEAN, and Promoting Social Inclusion through SDGs and Public Policies in Malaysia and Africa. In 2015, Prof. Dato’ Dr Rashila Ramli led the Substantive Team for the Malaysian Parliament at the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). Her current research is on Localizing SDGs in 10 parliamentary constituencies under the All Parliamentary Parties Group Malaysia (APPGM). Her professional engagement includes, among others, as President of the Malaysian Social Science Association (PSSM), member of the Council of Security Cooperation in Asia Pacific (CSCAP) Malaysia, Asst. Secretary-General, the National Council for Women’s Organizations (NCWO), Malaysia, and Co-Chair of the Malaysian SDG Academic Network.
|Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazrina Yahya is the Deputy Director of Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. She was previously the Director of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Global. She is recognized for her expertise in the area of Internationalization of Higher Education and Information Technology where she has been invited as a keynote speaker by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; Universitas Gadjah Mada, Bulacan State University, University of Mindanao, Philippines; Universiti Andalas, Politeknik Padang, Indonesia, Commision of Higher Education (CHED) Philippines and Cebu Normal University Philippines. She has published two books namely Internationalisation of Hogher Education: Insights From Malaysia Higher Education Institutions and Internationalisation and Student Mobility for Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia. She was also invited as a guest speaker by the Canadian Bureau Of International Education (CBIE), EU-SHARE, ASEAN University Network (AUN), Sophia University, Japan, Universiti Andalas, Australian High Commission in Malaysia, and CAMPUS France in various international conferences held globally and locally.She was also one of the key persons to head the collaboration between the Department of Education Mexico (EDOMEX) and UKM that resulted in UKM hosting 100 Mexican students for a three-week summer program at various faculties in 2013. Partners from the ASEAN University Network (AUN), Association of University of Asia Pacific, EU-SHARE and ERASMUS Techno II have also acknowledged her expertise in managing international forums and securing student numbers to go abroad for exchange.
She had also assisted UKM in providing the university strategic communication plan, involved in the university web development and enhancing the corporate publication quality specifically for the university branding.
With these experience locally and globally, Dr Yahya is recognised for her expertise in the areas of internationalization of higher education and corporate communication.
|Dato’s Chef Ismail is an internationally renowned Malaysian Celebrity Chef specializing in local and traditional Malay cuisine. He has made a great impact in the food industry in Malaysia and became the Ambassador of Malaysian Cuisine as well as the Ambassador of Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (IKIM). He is also very active in introducing the diversity of Malaysian cuisine internationally and was appointed as Malaysia’s Tourism Ambassador from 2014 to present.
With a strong reputation in the culinary world, he has been named as the Icon of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (Bess of Cef) and entrusted as the Chairman and Advisor of the National Heritage Department. Other than that, he is also active in promoting a variety of cuisines around the world and dedicated culinary recipes to the community through Rebung Chef Ismail Restaurant and Rebung Catering by Chef Ismail both located in Kuala Lumpur.
|Datin Ree Chua has spent almost 3 decades in the Malaysian advertising industry and witnessed how the landscape for branding and advertising has evolved and transformed.
Her experience comes from having developed creative strategic solutions for local and multinational blue chip brands including Citibank, HSBC, Sony, Nokia, Colgate Palmolive, British American Tobacco, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, Petronas, Telekom Malaysia, Astro, Gardenia, and Genting Simon.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, her advertising career has taken she through the doors of both international and local consultancies such as Dentsu, Young & Rubicam, Euro RSCG, Bates, M&C Saatchi, Batey, and Oxygen Advertising.
|Suhaimi Sulaiman helped set up a 24/7 television news channel, Astro AWANI in 2007 and went on to become its Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief. His leadership helped steer AWANI to the forefront of thought leadership with compelling content. During Malaysia’s 14th General Election, in May 2018, Suhaimi led the Astro AWANI team to produce the most watched election coverage, with 10.5 million television viewers. During the same period too, Astro AWANI’s website, astroawani.com, registered its highest ever unique visitors of 12 million and page views of 84.5 million. Also, the annual REUTERS Institute Digital News Report 2018, in its study of the local media, found that Astro AWANI was the most trusted Malaysian news source.
He was awarded the MPI-PETRONAS Special Jury Award for Leadership in Journalism by the Malaysian Press Institute in April 2019. Author of “I Hate Reading the Teleprompter: My 25 Years in Broadcasting”, Suhaimi Sulaiman is one of Malaysia’s top media personalities. With 30 years of experience as producer, broadcast journalist, anchorman and content strategist, Suhaimi practiced a hands-on approach in editorial leadership and newsroom management.
Suhaimi has also trained leaders of Start Ups in the ASEAN region on “dealing with the media” through his collaboration with the New Entrepreneurs Foundation. Through this collaboration Suhaimi trained Start Up founders from Singapore, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Suhaimi, a member of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia, is also a communication, media, crisis, leadership, branding and perception management trainer. He regularly conducts media relations training for the Malaysian Press Institute. He attended the CNN Journalism Fellowship Management Session at CNN’s Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, USA in September 2014 and is a CNN Journalism Fellow. He completed the Harvard Case Study Training on “Effective Strategies for Media Companies” in October 2009.
|Timothy L. Miller is a Customer Experience Consultant focused on business performance improvement with more than 20 years dedicated to helping companies improve their customers’ experiences and improving profitability across multichannel interactions.
Mr. Miller has strong experience in various “listening” channels to effectively understand the needs of the customer, such as CSAT (Customer Satisfaction), NPS (Net Promoter Score), Social Media Channels and various other forms. He understands effectively harnessing the feedback is central to understanding the needs of the customer. Mr. Miller is also a strong advocate of actively engaging employees to ensure the long-term success of any customer-focused initiative. He has built several regional and global award-winning teams and conducted business in more than 35 countries
Prior to beginning his consulting work in 2008, Mr. Miller spent his corporate career focused on leading customer service & support operations, customer retention teams, quality management organisations and leadership development initiatives throughout the globe, with a primary focus on Asia, Middle East/North Africa and North America.
In his corporate career, Mr. Miller held the roles of Chief of Staff, Managing Director, Vice-President Global Service Delivery and Director of Global Operations; managing revenues to USD135MM and leading organisations ranging from 10 – 7,000+ people dispersed throughout the globe.

|His Excellency Dr. Ivan Velimir Starčević is a professional diplomat with a long standing career in the foreign service of the Republic of Croatia. His previous posts include, among others, assignments in the wider Croatian neighborhood (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece) as well as assignments in the field of international peace and security (NATO-led operation ISAF in Afghanistan). Genuinely interested in the role of diplomacy in the contemporary world. Particularly dedicated to conflict resolution and peace operations, as demonstrated by his doctoral thesis „Peace Operations in the Postmodern Era.“ In the period 2012-
2017 served as Ambassador of Croatia to Greece, Georgia, Armenia and Cyprus
followed by the post of Director for Asia and Eastern partnership at the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Croatia in the period 2017-2019. From December 1st,
2019 serving in Kuala Lumpur as Ambassador of Croatia to Malaysia to cover
Viet Nam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Brunei as well.
Academic activities include lectures at many high education institutions as well
Peerapol Suriyachay worked with the EXXON Mobil as a Commercial analyst, responsible for Oil, Gas and chemical trading and commercial transaction of the company affiliates in Singapore. In addition to that he is now managing 25 years old family business which is the Restaurant in Nakhonphathom, Thailand. With a lot of challenges, his journeys would be beneficial to those incoming student who wish to join the UKM Exchange Programme as he has obtained so much from these programme that built up both entrepreneurial mindset as well as cultural responsiveness that helping him works easily in a big International corporation. To him, UKM is like a big mock up class room with diversity that will prepare students to step out confidently to the real challenging circumstance in the future.
|Johnny Bong is the youngest Managing Director to run one of the biggest massage centre in Kuching – Footsiie Q Reflexology & Family Massage. Back in 2017, he was graduated from UKM with Degree in Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) major in Finance. Throughout the university life, he achieved his goals to develop his leadership and public relation skill when he represented UKM for 3 weeks Summer Program in Tokyo, Japan (2015), chosen as exchange student for 1 semester in Sweden (2015), and most memorable one, a Student Representative Council. No doubt, UKM had opened a lot of doors for him to explore the world of knowledge which he will give back to the university.
His first job was in early 2017 as a dedicated freelance Property Agent in Kuching, Sarawak. A very skillful person and with his experience in dealing with students during university, he managed to close many deals in short time. After 6 months, he bought over a small massage centre with only 4 therapists and in 2019, he opened a second branch with more than 60 therapists which is one of the biggest massage centre in Kuching. Taking care of his family health had truly inspired him to run this business.
Aside from that, he never forget to give back to the community where he currently a 2020 President of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Padawan. It is a platform to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. He had initiated RISE program (Clean Water Movement) that currently reached communities in 4 rural areas in Borneo to ensure they have access of clean water.
