It was indeed a sweet escape from the hustle and bustle of university life for the 50 participants of Green Lung Capacity Building Camp as they had experienced a memorable camping trip in Hutan Rekreasi Sungai Congkak. The 3 days 2 nights trip was organized by Green Lung of UKM with the aim of nurturing leadership, communication and organization skills among participants and the future committee of Green Lung as well as increasing the awareness on tobacco control.
During the camp, the participants were given the opportunity to get closer to nature and enjoy the adventurous outdoor activities such as setting up camping tents, jungle trekking, water battle, barbeque and river trailing. Nevertheless, there was an interesting sharing session conducted by the President of Green Lung of UM, Choong Tzu Tang as the Green Lung ambassador. An inspiring talk on “Effective Smoking Cessation Strategy in Pharmacy Practice” was given by Dr. Mohd. Makmor Bakry. Few of the strategies shared include being sincere and creative in assisting the smokers and also engaging communication with the smoker in order to help them to quit smoking effectively.
The event came to a successful end with the closing ceremony. During the ceremony, speeches were given by the president of event, Muhamad Fadir bin Ilias and Dr. Mohd. Makmor Bakry. That was followed by the prize-giving session to the groups who participated in this event. Finally, the new president of Green Lung UKM who is Saw Phin Khye was revealed. Best wishes to Green Lung UKM under the leadership of the new committee and hopefully a smoke-free environment shall continue to be supported.
