Prof. Dr. Zafir Khan Mohamed Makhbul

Professor of Human Resource Management & Organisational Management


Dr. Zafir Khan Bin Mohamed Makhbul is a professor in the field of human resource management and organisational management at UKM-Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB). Professor Zafir has been appointed as Dean of UKM-GSB starting on March 2021. He has more than 23 years of experience in teaching and researching with UKM, and industrial experience in Motorola, Hong Leong Finance and Agrobank. Throughout his career as an academician, he used to be seconded as Deputy Director at the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. As an academician, he is directly involved in teaching, research, publication and community service activities in the field of human resource management and organisational management other than being responsible as the main supervisor and external examiner for PhD and Master Degree students.

More than 35 books have been written by this prolific writer and they have become main source and additional references at Public and Private Higher Learning Institutions. He is also a columnist and a prolific writer in the mainstream media, including columnist in Dewan Ekonomi Magazine by Institute of Language and Literature (DBP). To date, he has written more than 160 articles, most of which are research outcomes that have been published in the mainstream media. He is also the owner to 20 copyrights in UKM used in the knowledge contribution to the community and the industry. Among his achievements and acknowledgments are National Book Award 2017, Bitara Malay Language Award 2020, Excellent Service Award by UKM for 2008 and 2013, Excellent Performance Award by Ministry of Higher Education for 2015, Gold and Silver Medal Award in IIDEX 2016 and 2017, Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Effort in Writing Organizational Management by McGraw-Hill Education (Asia) 2008, UKM Special Quality Award 2008 – Grand Prize, Publication Award [Journal Category for Social Science and Humanities], Community Service Award based on Expertise at Quality Award Ceremony 2011, 2012 & 2017, Faculty of Economics and Management; and Award for Lead Researcher with Highest Total Research Fund at Quality Award Ceremony 2014 and 2015, Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM.

The acknowledgment for his expertise, academic and industrial experiences has been proven through his appointment as Program External Examiners, Member Board of Studies, Board of Moderators, Academic/ Course Advisor and Technical Committee for Public and Private Higher Learning Institutions and National and International Conferences. Professor Zafir has also been acknowledged as the Malaysian Qualification Agency panel of assessors/senior assessor /accreditation committee members. Since 2007 until today, he has assessed more than 200 study programs at Graduate and Postgraduate levels. He is also often invited as the speaker and trainee at several major organisations, such as Maybank, EPF, RHB Bank, TNB, Tabung Haji, JPA, MPSJ, INTAN, NIOSH, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, MESTECC and so on. Other than his career as an academician, he also has a position in professional bodies, namely the Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management, The American Institute of Stress and Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association.
