The Malaysian Red Crescent Honours Its UKM BranchBANGI, 2 April 2015 – The  Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) held its 28th Awards Ceremony and appreciation dinner to pay tribute to its members from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) chapter who have contributed to the success of its various activities.

The dinner was entirely organised by the UKM students themselves in all aspects including securing sponsors.

In attendance was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni) Prof Datin Dr Noor Aziah Mohd Awal, who congratulated the students  MRCS members – the society with the most representatives at UKM – for their success.

The Chairman of the UKM branch of the MRCS Dr Roslan Abdul Jalil, Heads and Fellows of residential colleges were also present on that night.

Prof Noor Aziah said students must maintain the spirit of volunteerism as it us essential to raising awareness of the role of civil society.

Universities, she said, are not just places to gain knowledge but can also foster idealism.

“Here we can see how idealism, collaboration, philanthropy and volunteerism can be good of the country,” she said.

In addition, it can add more skills to students so that they can be useful someday and encouraged students to donate blood to the national blood bank.

Dr Roslan, in turn, said the dinner was a place to strengthen ties among MRCS members at UKM and the alumni.

He urged all members to uphold the spirit of volunteerism as the vision and mission of the organization.

“As an organization with the most uniformed members at UKM, we must always be ready to provide assistance to people from within and outside  UKM,” he added.

At the event, students and groups who excelled in various fields received awards.

Best Detachment Project Award – 88D – Burhanuddin Helmi College

Outstanding Volunteer Award (Men’s)   – Zee Kai Jun – Ibu Zain College

Outstanding Volunteer Award  (ladies)  – Ang Min Zhee – Ibu Zain College

Runner-up – Rectum 88W –  Tun Syed Nasir College

Champions – Intestine 88W – Tun Syed Nasir College
