CHERAS, 20 Nov 2017 – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC) orthopaedic specialist, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Yazid Bajuri won three gold medals at the International Trade Fair IENA 2017 in Germany, recently.

He won gold medals for his innovation titled Development of Total Ankle Replacement Digital Templating Software (MyAnkleTM), Development of Bone Scaffold Using Rapid Prototyping System Integrated with Tissue Engineered Cells and My Ankle Fixator.

Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Yazid said two of the innovations have been registered as an intellectual property (IP), namely MyAnkleTM and Development of Bone Scaffold Using Rapid Prototyping System Integrated with Tissue Engineered Cells.

“I discovered there is an easier way for us to be more accurate and precise in performing ankle replacement procedures, with the aid of computers.

“This has actually helped in speeding up the process of the procedures and significantly reduced costs,” he said.

Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Yazid has also obtained UKMMC’s consent to use his inventions on patients.

“The operation, using the Development of Bone Scaffold Using Rapid Prototyping System Integrated with Tissue Engineered Cells, was done two months ago.

“The innovation will help to correct bone defects by acting as a bridge for newly cultured bone cells to communicate,” he explained adding that he plans to conduct more trials, based on the results obtained the patient.

My Ankle Fixator, meanwhile, is an innovation which helps joint mobility for newly operated ankles (ankle iron).

“My Ankle Fixator consists of a piece of iron placed near the ankle which helps mobilise ankles and simultaneously treats wounds,” he explained.
