Second Cluster Library

Second Cluster Library was established in 2012 and started its service on 9 September 2013. This library manages information resources and services for the requirements of university’s teaching, learning and research in engineering, architectures, technology and information sciences field. The library is located at the Second Cluster of UKM and sharing the building with Centre for Academic Management, Human Resources Division and Student Financial Division. This building has seven levels and the library comprises of level two to five with a width of 4,745 square meters.

Collections

General Collection

The library users based on their respective categories can borrow this open access collection. This collection is located at level 4 and 5.

Folio Collection

This collection is book with large sizes that located at level 4. Book categorized as folio book when the height is reaching 35 cm and the width is 25 cm.

Journal Collection

This collection comprises of current journals and back issues journals. Current journals are journal with current issues or journals that are still incomplete issues to be bound. Back issues journals are journal with complete issues and has been bound. This collection is located at level 3.

Reference Collection

Comprises of dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc. which located at level 2. These materials are not allowed for borrowing and strictly for reference purposes only within the library.

Thesis Collection

Comprises of masters and PhD student thesis. This collection is located at level 2 near to the counter. This collection is not allowed for borrowing and photocopying. The thesis is strictly for reference purposes only at the provided space. Library users need to deal with staff at the level 2 counter before referring the thesis.

Online Renewal can be done through GEMILANG before due date, renewal is only allowed for a maximum of 3 times, no outstanding fine and the material has not been booked by other user.

Library user can reserve materials that has been borrowed by other library user via GEMILANG. The cancellation of reservation also can be done through GEMILANG. After the book returned by the borrower, the bookers are given seven (7) days to get the book at the level 2 counter.

  • This service is extended to all academic / professional / administrative staff, postgraduates and final year students of the University. Undergraduate students of the University may be considered for the service if the required items are available only in libraries where they are denied library membership.
  • Applicants are required to completing the Inter Library Loan Form / or fill in  the online http://iquest.net.my/iquest/
  • Applicants will be charged the cost of materials supplied and services fees
  • Materials in the country are FREE but foreign materials will be charged.

  • For item from other libraries, users are billed for the cost of item and service charge determined by the lending libraries.

The Information Skills Course is a guidance and education service programme for library customers.  The main aim of this course is to build skills in accessing a variety of materials and information sources; and to guide the customers towards using the materials and services provided by the library with efficiency, effectively and independently. This service is provided primarily for the new students.

New books will be placed on display for duration of 1 – 2 months at display new books corner, Level 2 before being arranged at General Collection. Users are allowed to borrow the books.

Facilities

Auditorium is located at Level 2, can accommodate 177 people at one time. In order to use the auditorium, for UKM staff, they need to book the auditorium via Sistem Maklumat Pengurusan Ruang (SMPR), while for the students; they need to go to Level 2 counter.

The library subscribes to five (5) daily newspapers: Berita Harian, New Straits Times, The Star, Nanyang Siang Pau and Malaysia Nanban as for reference and light reading to users at Level 2 reading area. Users are only allowed to read the newspaper in the area concerned.

Library provides daily locker service (without payment) and monthly rental that located in front of library main entrance, Level 2. Monthly locker rent is RM5.00 with deposit RM15.00. The deposit will be returned after the expiration of a locker. If the key locker loss:

  • For monthly locker, the deposit will be not returned.
  • For daily locker, a penalty payment is charged RM50.00 to replace the key

User can use this locker by register at level 2 counter.

Training lab is located at Level 2, can accommodate 34 people at one time. In order to use the training lab, for UKM staff, they need to book via Sistem Maklumat Pengurusan Ruang (SMPR), while for the students; they need to go to Level 2 counter.

The library provides one self-check machine for borrowing and returning the books at level 2 nearer to the counter.

The library provides reading area for each level in the library.

This area is located opposite to the library exit at Level 2. This area provides water dispenser and sales of mineral water and snacks for the convenience of users.

This area located at Level 2 with indoor games facilities such as chess and Sahibba. Television also provided in this area.

All levels in the library are equipped with Wi-Fi coverage.
