Pre-Clinical Library
The 10,000 square feet Preclinical Library is located on Levels 3 and 4 of the Preclinical Building, UKM Medical Centre. The library opened on 3 November 2014, but borrowing and returning services only started on 11 February 2015. The Preclinical Library was established specifically to provide information services in preclinical fields such as Anatomy, Physiology, Parasitology & Entomology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Microbiology & Immunology. The Preclinical Library started with an initial budget of RM20,000, its initial collection started with 805 copies of printed materials and 16 copies of media materials, this collection was originally part of the collection belonging to the PPUKM Library of 435 copies and the Dr. Abdul Latiff Library of 370 copies, this initial collection was transferred to the Preclinical Library on 9 February 2015.

SPKPPP Surveillance Audit by SIRIM QAS International
On 8 May 2025, the Preclinical Library Office underwent a Surveillance Audit for the Library Services Quality Management System (SPKPPP) conducted by SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. The audit aimed to ensure continued compliance with UKM’s quality management standards.
Integrated Internal Audit – Preclinical Library
On 5 February 2025, the Preclinical Library underwent an Integrated Internal Audit conducted by UKM internal auditors. The audit aimed to ensure that all work processes comply with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), identify any non-conformities, and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of library operations.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with the Orang Asli Community in Bukit Bandaraya, Shah Alam
On 28 December 2024, the Preclinical Library staff in collaboration with the UKM Library Staff Welfare Club held a community service program at the Bukit Bandaraya Orang Asli Community Hall, Shah Alam. The program was also attended by the Member of Parliament for Shah Alam, YB Tuan Haji Azli bin Yusof and the UKM Chief Librarian, Ms Rohaya Umar.
Benchmarking visit from Arabian Gulf University delegation
On 18 December 2024, the Preclinical Library received a benchmarking visit from a Delegation from the Faculty of Medicine of the Arabian Gulf University, Bahrian. This visit was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Prof Dr Abdul Halim Daifallah and Prof Dr Abdel Aziz. The visit was held to see the facilities available at the Preclinical Library as well as scientific materials related to medicine.

On 2 December 2024, the Preclinical Library received an audit visit from the Doctor of Philosophy (Community Health) Program, Faculty of Medicine, UKM. The purpose of this visit was to view scholarly materials focused on Community Health as well as various other facilities for the use of Postgraduate students, especially in the field of Community Health.
UKM Library SPKPPP Self-Assessment Audit
UKM library level innovation competition
On 13 November 2024, the Preclinical Library competed in the UKM Library Innovation competition. This competition took place at the Tun Sri Lanang Library. The innovation carried out by the Preclinical Library staff was to ensure that all library operations could run more smoothly and efficiently.
Benchmarking Visit of the Standing Committee of the Malaysian Medical Library Group (MLG) and Taiwan Medical Library Association (TMLA)
On 11 October 2024, the Preclinical Library received an official visit from a Delegation from the Taiwan Medical Library Association (TMLA) and the Malaysian Medical Library (MLG). This is a highest honor and appreciation to the Preclinical Library.

Collection
General Collection
This general collection consists of textbooks in the field of Medicine and Health Sciences which includes books in fields such as Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Parasitology & Entomology and UMBI. Books in this collection can be borrowed by Library members based on their respective category qualifications. This collection is available on level 3 of the library.
Thesis Collection
This collection has the prefix ‘Thesis’ on the book call number and is located on level 4 of the library. These materials can only be borrowed by academics and are for reference only in the library for other users.
Open Access Collection
This collection is located on level 3 of the Preclinical Library where it contains general and popular reading materials that are suitable for all groups or ages. These books can be read in this corner reading room only and are allowed to be borrowed like books in the General Collection.
Journal Collection
The journal collection in the Preclinical Library is located on level 4. These materials cannot be borrowed and are for internal Library reference only.

The library offers online services for loan renewal and material reservation through the GEMILANG system. Patrons can easily renew their loans or reserve materials currently on loan via the online public catalogue. These services are available at any time through http://gemilang.ukm.my, providing a convenient and efficient way to manage library resources.
The Inter Library Loan (ILL) service is provided to academic, professional, administrative staff, as well as postgraduate and final-year undergraduate students to obtain materials or articles from external libraries, if the relevant materials or articles are not available at the UKM Library.

The Library offers applications for the purchase of new books/media/theses are limited to UKM staff (lecturers/researchers/staff/postgraduate students). Applications can be submitted via the LibQuest System.
New arrivals books from the library will be displayed and can be borrowed by the library user. The purpose of the display is to promote the newly purchased books to the library user.
Facilities
DISCUSSION ROOM
The Discussion Room provides a comfortable space for group discussions. Each room is equipped with a table, chairs, a whiteboard, and marker pens. Users can book the room for free at the Library Counter.
MEETING ROOM
The Meeting Room is equipped with facilities such as a projector, whiteboard, and Smart TV for meetings, discussions, or presentation sessions. The room can be booked as needed.
COMPUTER LAB
The Computer Lab provides computer facilities with internet access for teaching, learning, training, and project work. It can accommodate up to 18 users at a time and can be booked as needed.
LOCKER
Lockers are provided free of charge for library patrons to securely store their personal belongings. Users must register at the counter and return the key before 5:00 PM. A late return fee of RM1.00 per day will be charged for overdue keys.
24-HOUR READING AREA
The 24-Hour Reading Area is a learning space that operates around the clock, providing a comfortable environment for users to study or have discussions at any time. It is equipped with Wi-Fi and air conditioning for maximum comfort.
WI-FI
The Wi-Fi facility is provided free of charge throughout the library to enable users to access online information. Users must register first before using this service.
RELAXATION AREA
There are Relaxation Areas on Levels 3 and 4 of the library, offering a more beautiful, comfortable, and inviting environment for users to study in a more relaxed setting.
DIGITAL CORNER
The Digital Corner provides access to computers, high-speed internet, and digital resources such as e-books and electronic journals. This space is designed to facilitate research and interactive learning.
CARREL
The Carrel Room is a comfortable and quiet individual study space, ideal for users who need to focus without distractions. It is equipped with a desk, chair, and good lighting for maximum comfort.
