FELLOWSHIP IN INFECTIOUS DISEASES (UKM)

Independent and Certified Internal Physician with interest in Infectious Diseases

  1. The overall goal and objective of the Adult Infectious Diseases Fellowship Programme is to provide the trainees with generic and sub-specialty competency that they will need to undertake a specialist/consultant role in ID service.
  2. To acquire knowledge and skills in providing an ethical and humanistic care of patients with HIV and Infectious diseases.
  3. To acquire knowledge and skills in performing and analysing basic microbiology , infection control and antimicrobial stewardship.
  1. Candidate will be required to perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist i.e. run clinics, do ward rounds, criticize journals, do on-calls.
  2. Candidate must attend and involve in CME meetings organised by the Unit.
  3. Candidate must keep a log book and an audit of his/her performance.
  4. Candidate must be contactable and regularly meet with course director.
  5. Candidate must know the basic microbiology and antimicrobial stewardship practices and infection control etc.
  6. Candidate is required to join all clinical and academic activities of the Unit.
  7. Candidate must do a learning to make difference project and publish at least 1 abstract or journal.  
  8. Candidate must pass the viva examinations yearly with complete log books, attendance and to attend all national infectious disease online course as part of the national curriculum Certificate of completion of training certified by Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine UKM will be given to all successful candidates.

  1. Please apply at least 6 months before intended start date.
  2. You will need Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). Please ensure you fulfil all the requirements for TPC. https://mmc.gov.my/wpcontent/uploads/2019/11/TPC_July_2019_2.pdf
  3. Application for TPC will be forwarded to MMC by UKM except for Letter of Good Standing.

Flowchart of Credentialing and Privileging in HCTM for International Candidates

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
