Synopsis

Is a PhD the worst or best decision for your life?

This is actually a pretty complicated question. I wish I’d asked myself this question too many years ago. We all know that a PhD project is a long-term commitment. To make an informed decision on whether or not to embark on this journey, you must consider your motivation and resources carefully. You will need both in abundance! Know your purpose and where to start. Don’t get a PhD by default. Really think it through and thrive.

Let’s join my PhD journey-sharing session. We will conclude my eight-year journey, from the moment I left Malaysia until the completion of my doctorate. A journey that started with me being a single lady to a widow with 3 beautiful children. An initially average student who became the first author of papers in Q1 journal.

Looking back on my PhD journey, I wonder what helped me thrive in it? What is a doctorate for me? What crises do I encounter along the way? What did I thrive learnt?

I hope my sharing will inspire some of you to pursue a PhD or give you the energy to push through even when the motivation to continue seems to falter off.
