Introduction

The Master of Mechanical Engineering programme is offered by the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering as a coursework programme. The programme covers core courses of the mechanical engineering discipline namely thermofluids, applied mechanics, advanced materials and processes. In these courses, students are exposed to current trends and issues in the field of study. Students are also exposed to research management and aspects of entrepreneurship.

    1. A Bachelor of Engineering degree with honours or a Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree (with CGPA of 2.5 and above or equivalent) from any recognized university OR;
    2. A Bachelor of Engineering degree or in related field or equivalent (with CGPA of 2.00 – 2.49) may be accepted, subject to thorough internal assessments OR;
    3. A Bachelor of Science degree with honours (non-engineering field) or a Bachelor of Technology degree (non-engineering field) with minimum CGPA of 3.00 from any recognized university OR;
    4. A Bachelor of Science degree with honours (non-engineering field) or a Bachelor of Technology degree (non-engineering field) with CGPA below 2.99 from any recognized university may be accepted, subject to thorough internal assessments OR;
    5. Fulfil Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL A) for Malaysian candidates only: 

      • At least 30 years of age on the date of application
      • Pass Diploma in the field of Mechanical Engineering or other related field, and the qualification is equivalent and recognised by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the Senate;
      • Other equivalent qualification; AND 
      • Has MQA APEL with MQF Level 7 certificate
    1. Minimum score of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent for any examination that has been aligned to the Common Europeon Framework of Reference (CEFR) as approved by the Senate OR;
    2. Letter of confirmation of academic qualification obtained using English as the medium of instruction issued by the University OR;
    3. International student originating from countries that uses English as the official language (refer to The International Academic Grade Guide. 2nd Edition)

Introduction

The Master of Engineering (Chemical) programme is offered by Department of Chemical and Process Engineering as a coursework programme. The programme covers core courses of the chemical engineering programme such as process design and optimization, process design using latest computational techniques, risk analysis & safety and project management. Advances in emerging technologies are offered through three choices of module; Biochemical Engineering, Process Sustainability Technology and Energy Engineering. Each module offered in the specific area and focusing in the advance chemical engineering course such as bioprocess engineering, biopharmaceutical technology and Advanced Biomaterial Engineering in the Biochemical Engineering module, green separation technology, industrial wastewater management and symbiotic eco- community in Process Sustainability Technology module and renewable energy, solar energy and fuel cell technology in Energy Engineering module. Besides, research skills are offered in two project courses. At the end of the program, the students should not only understand, but can apply and develop their own advanced technologies in chemical and biochemical industries as listed above.

MASTER OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Introduction

The country needs competent human resources in line with the rapid advancement of the telecommunications and computer networking industry before 2020 to achieve developed nation status. Exposure to the latest knowledge in computer engineering and telecommunications provides wide opportunities for students to serve in various sectors such as telecommunications (electronic communication), the manufacturing sector and manufacturing (tooling and control, mechatronics), the computer industry and information technology (information systems and engineering computer)

Applicants applying for the Master’s programmes should have the following qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or other universities approved by the Senate with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) ≥ 2.80; OR

Other relevant qualifications or experience approved by the Senate

International students are required to fulfil the English language requirement as follows:

Score not less than 550 in TOEFL; OR

not less than 5.5 in IELTS for a particular programme

International students who have the academic qualifications obtained from any local university approved by the Senate will be exempted from requirement (1)(a) but are required to take Ujian Kecekapan Bahasa Inggeris (UKBI) and if they do not acquire the level set by the program, the candidates are required to take and pass Modul Kemahiran Bahasa Inggeris (MKBI).

Faculty/Institute may grant exceptions to the English requirement for international students from countries with English as the official language or have academic qualifications obtained from institutions that use English as a medium of instruction.

Introduction

The Master of Data Science, at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia has been established since September 2016. The program is designed, to produce graduates who are knowledgeable and competent in management as well as the technical aspects of data science. This is in line with the country’s aspirations that require competent human resources to keep up with the rapid advancement in the field of data science prior to the 2050 national transformation. The program also provides broad opportunities for graduates to serve in the government and private sectors as information technology (IT) professionals, in particular as data scientist.

Master of Cyber Security – Full Time

Introduction

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia offers various computing programmes. Master of Cyber Security is uniquely designed for special individuals and their organization’s needs. We team up with CyberSecurity Malaysia to ensure the best knowledge delivery.

Teaching Approach

By considering working IT professionals as our main target group, the courses are designed as a 5-day learning module which is presented in classroom style incorporating active learning, lab activities, discussion and real-world case studies. The course is assessed based on 60% ongoing practical assessment and 40% final examination. Assignments are part of the practical assessment and they must be completed within the subsequent three weeks for full-time students and six weeks for part time students.

Bachelor’s Degree in computing from the National University of Malaysia or any other higher education institution approved by the Senate with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.75; 

OR

Bachelor’s Degree in computing from the National University of Malaysia or any other higher education institution approved by the Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 but not reaching 2.75, can be considered subject to internal assessment; 

OR

Bachelor’s Degree in computing from the National University of Malaysia or any other higher education institution approved by the Senate with a CGPA below 2.50 with at least 5 years of working experience in the field of computing can be considered;

 OR

Bachelor’s Degree in a different field from the National University of Malaysia or any other higher education institution approved by the Senate with a minimum CGPA of 2.75, 

AND 

have no less than 5 years of working experience in the field of computing, 

AND 

need to complete prerequisite courses set by the program; 

OR

Other qualifications were equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and have other qualifications or experience approved by the Senate.

Achieved a TOEFL score of not less than 550; 

OR

IELTS with a level not less than 5.5; 

OR

Other qualifications equivalent to level B2 according to The Common European Framework of

Master of Health Informatics – Full Time

MASTER OF HEALTH INFORMATICS

Introduction

The Faculty of Information Science and Technology in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia offers various computing programmes. However, the Master of Health Informatics is uniquely designed for Medical or Health Science Professionals.

Teaching Approach

By considering enthusiastic executives as our main audience, the courseare designed in such a way that face to face learning is done in 5 full days which include active learning, lab activities, discussion and case studies.Whilst the assignments need to be completed in the next 3 weeks for full-time or 6 weeks for part time students. The ongoing assessment contributes to 60%-70% of the overall marks and the remainder is from the final examination.

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Medicine, Health Sciences, Social Sciences or other fields related from the University Malaysian national or anywhere institute of higher learning with obtaining a Grade Point Average and Cumulative (CGPA) ≥2.75; 

OR

Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Medicine, Health Sciences, Social Sciences or other fields related to obtaining an Average Grade and Cumulative Value (CGPA) ≥2.50, may be admitted subject to a minimum 5 years of work experience in relevant fields; 

OR

Other qualifications equivalent to a degree Bachelors and have qualifications other or experience, which is approved by the Senate 

OR

Other relevant professional qualifications in medical or health sciences are recognized as equivalent to an honours degree by the UKM Senate.

Minimum 550 (PBT) / 46-59 (iBT) score for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

5.5 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Applicants applying for the Master’s programmes should have the following qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or other universities approved by the Senate with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) ≥ 2.80; OR

Other relevant qualifications or experience approved by the Senate

International students are required to fulfil the English language requirement as follows:

Score not less than 550 in TOEFL; OR

not less than 5.5 in IELTS for a particular programme

International students who have the academic qualifications obtained from any local university approved by the Senate will be exempted from requirement (1)(a) but are required to take Ujian Kecekapan Bahasa Inggeris (UKBI) and if they do not acquire the level set by the program, the candidates are required to take and pass Modul Kemahiran Bahasa Inggeris (MKBI).

Faculty/Institute may grant exceptions to the English requirement for international students from countries with English as the official language or have academic qualifications obtained from institutions that use English as a medium of instruction.

Malay Language Courses (4 units)

All international students are required to follow two (2) Malay language courses equivalent to 4 units offered by the Citra Centre. Exemptions can be given to candidates who have taken and passed Malay language courses organized by other bodies recognized by the UKM Senate.
