Master of Community Health Science (Hospital Management and Health Science) – Part Time

MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCE (HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT AND HEALTH ECONOMICS)

MQA/SWA11811

Introduction

Community health is one of the disciplines in science which aims to increase the standard of physical, mental and social health at individual, family and society levels through organized cooperation from individual, family, society and health and among the medical services providers. Community health practice emphasized the management of resources and facilities to achieve an optimum standard of physical, mental and social health by the population.

Community health scope includes functions such as community planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring to ensure a comprehensive health service to fulfil the needs of society, in which it could be accessed, accepted and used by all the members of the society.  An individual who is responsible for community health, whether national, state, district or a special unit of a specific service, must have extended training in community health.  These individuals include doctors, nurses, scientists, engineers, lawyers, economists, social or administrative officers, and others.

In recent years, community health has been recognized as one of the disciplines which developed tremendously at an international level.  Many higher learning institutions in developed and developing countries offer community health studies at the postgraduate level i.e. Master’s level and doctorate level.

Community health specialization progressively develops following the development and needs of a country.   Scopes of specialization offered under the Master of Public Health Science (Hospital Management and Health Economics) cover the basic specializations in community health. These include occupational health, environmental health, family health, hospital management and health economics, statistics epidemiology and health promotion.
