Master of Industrial Safety Management – Part Time

MASTER OF INDUSTRIAL SAFETY MANAGEMENT

Introduction

UKM has been one of the pioneers in this field since 1999. The fundamental core knowledge in this programme includes Occupational Safety Management System, Risk and Hazard Assessment, Explosive and Fire Safety, Ergonomics, Organizational and Industrial Psychology, Radiation and Chemical Safety, Mechanical and Electrical Safety, Biological and Environmental Safety, and Environmental and Industrial Law. This programme is formally recognised by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), reflecting its alignment with international standards in occupational safety and health education. Course content is delivered to students through lectures, practicals, fieldwork, industrial visits and research projects. Course assessment is carried out in the form of examinations and quizzes, assignments, practical reports, fieldwork reports, research project reports and oral presentations. This programme is offered in executive mode and only offered once in each academic session. It is carried out in the semester system, which is 3 semesters executed on weekends. Students are required to register and pass core courses which overall carry 40 notional credits.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, from any institution of higher learning  recognized by the UKM Senate; or
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 – 2.49 or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years working experience or research project in a relevant field. Proof of the working experience of a foreign candidate should be acknowledged by the embassy of the respective country; or
    • Fulfil Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL A) for local candidates only:
        • Should be more than 30 years of age in the year of application; and
        • Possess at least STPM or diploma in a relevant field or other equivalent qualification recognized by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the UKM Senate; and
        • Possess a certificate of MQA APEL with MQF Level 7
    • An international student shall obtain minimum results of TOEFL iBT score 46 / IELTS band 5.5 / CEFR band B2 / MUET band 3 (An international student who comes from a country where English is the official language, or who has obtained academic qualifications from any institution of higher learning that uses English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from the requirement for TOEFL / IELTS / MUET); and
    • Fulfill other requirements prescribed by the UKM Senate from time to time.

Introduction

The program is offered to address challenges in quality and productivity issues required in public sector, manufacturing and services environments. The main courses offered cover the philosophy and methods of total management and quality improvement of goods and services with a focus given to the application of scientific and mathematical methods. The main message of this program is to impart knowledge using mathematical science methods and mathematical and statistical skills to improve the quality of goods and services.

Entry Requirement
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, from any institution of higher learning  recognized by the UKM Senate; or
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 – 2.49 or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years working experience or research project in a relevant field. Introduction

This program will be offered starting from 2022. This program is designed to produce graduates with advanced knowledge in the fields of low carbon technology and hydrogen technology in Malaysia, which is crucial to achieving global energy and environmental sustainability in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. This program covers the core components related to low carbon and hydrogen technology, including the fundamental understanding of various low carbon technologies and emerging hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, global energy policy, and management. This program is also designed to enable the candidates to choose the elective courses based on their background interests ranging from fundamental in the related applications such as advanced energy material, electrochemistry for energy, and energy system modeling, to the technology-related aspects such as energy storage and transport, process safety for hydrogen technology and circular economy. A wide range of career prospects that fits the future global economy trend can be undertaken by the graduates from this program, including (a) renewable energy field, (b) research and development, (c) construction and consultancy for new energy technology, (d) policymaking related to renewable energy, and (e) business venturing on frontier technologies.

-Entry Requirement
    • A bachelor’s degree in Law or Syariah or a bachelor’s degree in any field that has a legal or Syariah component from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or other universities approved by the Senate with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 out of 4.0 or its equivalent as accepted by the Senate; or
    • Candidates with a CGPA of below 2.50 out of 4.0 or equivalent qualifications can be accepted provided they have a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a related field and are subject to the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee’s assessment that the candidate is able to pursue the Master’s program.
    • International candidates must have a score of 600 for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) OR 100 for the Online TOEFL Test OR a score of 6.0 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) OR Band 4 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET) OR any exam that has been aligned to The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) set by the respective program and approved by the Senate.

International candidates who do not meet the English language competency requirements may be given a Conditional Offer as follows:

    • candidates are allowed to attend the Higher Education English Test (HEET) Training at UKM, but students are still subject to the regulations of the Malaysian Immigration Department which are currently in force; AND
    • International candidates who follow the Intensive English Preparation Course (IEP) need to sit for the MUET exam or any exam that has been aligned to The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) to meet the English language competency requirements.

All international students are required to follow a Malay language course as an Audit (U) course in order to be eligible to be awarded a degree as determined by the University.
