Introduction

This programme is introduced to produce graduates from variety of academic discipline to enable them to explore, create and exploit new venture creation opportunitities or re-invent the current business venture. This programme is designed based on the concept of “Triple Helix”, a combination of university expertise, industry/entrepreneurs and national entreprenuership supporting agencies which provide the platform for students to exchange ideas about business environment, specifically involving entreprenuership and innovation.

Architecture – Bachelors of Science (Hons)

Bachelor of Science in Architecture with Honours

The Department of Architecture was established in 2002. The undergraduate program on offer is Bachelor of Architectural Science (LAM Part 1). Bachelor of Architectural Science (Part 1) is a semi-professional degree. It comprises courses such as design studio, history and theory of architecture, environmental science, building structures, building services, architectural communication, building technology and materials. The program is oriented towards the design studio course, which is the core for the programme.

Chemical Engineering – Bachelors (Hons)

Bachelor of Chemical Engineering With Honours

The Chemical Engineering program offers two Bachelor of Engineering specialization in Chemical Engineering and Biochemical Engineering since the Department was established in 1984 when the Faculty was established at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Chemical engineering is directly involved in material processing raw to useful materials especially if the processing involves changes in conditions, composition and energy content of processed materials. Biochemical Engineering derived from the fermentation industry applying the principles of Chemical Engineering in material processing biology and biochemistry.

Mechanical Engineering – Bachelors (Hons)

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering With Honours

The department offers two undergraduate degree programs, which are the Mechanical Engineering program and the Manufacturing Engineering program. Both of these undergraduate programs have similar program structures. Students for both program required to complete same course until fourth semester, and specialization on mechanical and manufacturing programme start from semester five until eight. Each of the department’s core courses typically include relevant laboratory sessions and course assessments which include elements of examinations and practical / laboratory works. In the final two semesters of the study program, emphasis is given to management and design, where students are required to take courses in these fields. This is in line with the aim of the department to produce engineers with in-depth knowledge in design and in the art of management.

Currently, PKE offers study programme which is:

    • Electrical and Electronic Engineering (KZ)

By offering this programme, students can focus on their field of specialisation as early as their first year of study. This is expected to enhance the quality of potential engineers that are produced. In year 2013, the syllabus of both study programme has been changed to fulfil the requirements of the Board of Engineers so that graduates from this programme would be recognised as engineers in the field of electrical and electronic engineering.

In general, the programme in the department have been well received by the industry and employers. This achievement should inspire students to continue in pursuing success.

Bachelor of Civil Engineering With Honours

Various civil engineering specialties are coordinated by the different groups such as structural engineering, construction materials engineering, construction and project management, geotechnical and geo environmental engineering, environmental and water resources engineering, transportation engineering. The teaching staffs of the department have the required academic and professional qualifications suitable for civil engineering courses. Laboratories in the Programme of Civil Engineering are equipped with latest laboratory equipment for course work and research. With total amount of equipment in excess of RM20 million, the civil engineering lab is capable of conducting laboratory works for teaching and research to the highest level quality.

Bachelor of Science in Statistics with Honours

Students enrolled in the Statistics programme, are exposed to thorough knowledge on theoretical as well as the applications. The students learn a variety of problem solving techniques and data analysis. Students are also provided with the knowledge in defining problems, understanding stated problems, identifying the methods of data collection and interpreting results of data analysis. This would shape the student creativity in handling the techniques of problem solving, data collection and interpretation of the results obtained.

Bachelor of Science With Honours (Plant Biotechnology)

The field of plant biotechnology highlights developing new techniques towards improvements for plant production to supply the global need for food, raw materials and fuel. In addition to being a source of food, plants also provide us with many pharmaceuticals and industrial compounds. As our population grows, our daily needs also grow. Through plant biotechnology, the increase in quality crops, increased crop yields and the production of specific characteristics in plants is achievable. In this programme, the students will be exposed to the knowledge and techniques related to plant biotechnology with particular emphasis on aspects of tissue culture and plant molecular biology.

Physics is a field of science that studies the properties, motion, behaviour, force and energy of matter. Physics uncovers the hidden laws that govern and explain the orderliness of the universe, from the behaviour of particles to the life cycle of stars scattered in our night sky.
