How do I register for courses?

Students are required to register for courses through the Executive Student Information System (SMPE: https://smplucee.ukm.my/smpe), by referring to the Semester Course Offering List for their respective programme. The Semester Course Offering List and Class Timetable are available on the UKMShape website.

If I do not complete the early course registration, when can I register for courses?

Course registration can be made during the first and second weeks of lectures for undergraduate programmes, while postgraduate programmes allow course registration from the first to the fourth week of lectures. Please refer to the Important Dates on the UKMShape website.

How do I apply for official documents (Student Verification Letter, Academic Research Verification Letter, Letter of Completion of Studies, Senate Letter, Offer Letter, and Tuition Fee Verification Letter)?

Students are required to submit document applications and check the application status through the SMPE Web. Once the document verification process is completed, students will receive a notification via email, and the approved documents can be downloaded.

How do I apply for course exemption/credit exemption?

Students are required to complete the Course Exemption/Credit Exemption Application Form and email it to upprpshape@ukm.edu.my no later than the first week of the semester, together with a copy of their academic transcript and the relevant course syllabus/course pro forma. Applications are permitted only once throughout the duration of the student’s studies, namely during the first semester of the first year of study. Approval of the application is subject to the faculty’s evaluation and approval.

How do I apply for a deferment of studies?

Students may apply for a deferment of studies through the SMPE by uploading the completed Deferment of Studies Application Form together with the relevant supporting documents. The application must be submitted no later than the tenth week of the current semester for undergraduate programmes, and no later than the fourth week of the current semester for postgraduate programmes. All applications are subject to the approval of the respective faculty.

I missed the course verification deadline. What should I do?

No further action is required from the student, as all course information recorded in the SMPE will be deemed correct, and grades will be awarded based on the courses that have been registered. A late course verification penalty of RM50 will be imposed. Students may check the outstanding charge through the student e-Finance (e-Kewangan) portal.

How do I update my personal information (student name, identification card/passport number, and other related details)?

Students may email upprpshape@ukm.edu.my and must attach a copy of their identification card/passport for the personal information update process. However, if the student's status has been confirmed as completed studies by the University Senate, any changes to the student's personal information are NOT ALLOWED.

What is the difference between withdrawal from studies and withdrawal from a course?

Withdrawal from studies refers to a student’s decision to discontinue their studies and stop pursuing the programme, whereas withdrawal from a course refers to withdrawing from a registered course during the course add/drop period. Please refer to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Regulations (Undergraduate Studies) 2024 for undergraduate programmes, and the UKM Regulations (Postgraduate Studies) 2021 for postgraduate programmes.
