Focus Group Discussion by Ocean Malaysia Team

The Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia has organised a Focus Group Discussion on November 15, 2022 at the Promenade Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, jointly coordinated by Dr. Lubna Alam (UKM) and Dr. Chen Cheng Ann (UMS). Participating organisations included Marine Department of Sabah, WWF Sabah, Sabah Parks, LKIM, Sabah Ports, Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd, Marine Police of Sabah, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, and Department of Fisheries Sabah. Prof. Dr. Saleem Mustafa of Universiti Malaysia Sabah delivered an opening address to kick off the discussion. Dr. Rospidah Ghazali, Prof. Dr. Saleem Mustafa, Dr. Lubna Alam, and Dr. Chen Cheng Ann moderated the discussion in four different groups. The discussion was intended to elicit expert opinions on the operation and management of fishing fleets in Malaysia. This research is financed by Oceana and led by Dr. Lubna Alam as a part of LESTARI’s Ocean Malaysia initiative.
