Embalming Course Enhances Knowledge and Skills in Funeral Management

27 August 2026 – The Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), organised a two-day Embalming Course from 26 to 27 August 2026. The course was attended by participants from Pengurusan Jenazah AHIM, Sarawak.

The two-day course comprised both theoretical and practical sessions, providing participants with comprehensive exposure to various aspects of embalming. The theoretical session was conducted on the first day, while the practical session was held on the second day at the Dissection Hall, Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, UKM.

The theoretical session was delivered by three invited speakers with expertise in their respective fields. They were Dr Salmiah Baharuddin, Epidemiology Officer, Cheras District Health Office, Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH); Prof. Dr Faridah Mohd Nor, former Head of the Forensic Unit, Department of Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM); and Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Nasir Abdul Majid, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Shariah and Law, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).

On the second day, participants took part in a practical session held at the Department of Anatomy’s Dissection Hall. The session provided participants with an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained during the theoretical session through hands-on exposure to the processes and techniques involved in embalming.

The course concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony for all participants in recognition of their commitment and active participation throughout the programme.

The organisation of this course reflects the commitment of the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, UKM, to sharing its expertise and knowledge in the fields of anatomy and embalming with external organisations. It is hoped that similar courses will continue to be organised in the future to further strengthen professional networks, collaboration and knowledge sharing among relevant institutions and organisations.
