UMBI’S 1st Perhimpunan Majlis Kakitangan for 2017

To start the new year of 2017, UMBI’s staff and students have gathered on the 10^th of January for our first Perhimpunan Kakitangan of the year. Our director has delivered a motivating speech to get us up and running and to take 2017 by storm.

Basically, 5 insightful advices were given:

Firstly, we need to grow and develop to become better people, researchers and ultimately a better institution. We need to map ourselves where we currently are and reflect upon it.

Secondly, passion is the key to success. Be passionate about your work, be passionate about science and eventually the tasks that seem obligatory will become something we look forward to.

Thirdly, accountability is essential. We need to be accountable in all aspects of our lives, from being accountable to your supervisor regarding your thesis or to your superior regarding your time management — being accountable is imperative.

Fourthly, change is the only constant in the world. Embrace change as sometimes change is exactly what we need to grow and become better.

Fifth, the balance between work and life is vital as well. Focus on our work but do not lose sight of things that matter to us, be it family, friends or even looking forward to that weekend marathon of watching Star Wars.

It is expected that 2017 will be a tough year for all of us, economically particularly, but fear not, as long as we at UMBI work together, we will succeed together. Oh and don’t forget to watch Apollo 13! It’s one great movie!
