UMBI Leadership Lecture Series No. 1/2022

On the 12^th of August 2022, UMBI held its first UMBI Leadership Lecture Series. We are very honored to have Professor Dato’ Dr Hanafiah Harunarashid as our guest speaker to give a leadership talk on “Effective leadership: From a surgeon to a healthcare and university leader – my journey”. The talk was conducted in a hybrid format at UMBI auditorium with live streaming on UMBI Facebook. In his talk, Prof. Dato’ Dr Hanafiah shared his leadership experience and inspiring journey from a surgeon to the Director of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) and now the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) – Kuala Lumpur Campus.

He shared seven components of leadership for institutional prestige abbreviated as MEANING: Motivation, Expertise, Authority, Network, Inertia, Negotiations, Greatness. He also stressed the importance of having a strategic plan and teamwork in successful leadership. He concluded his talk by encouraging everyone to believe in themselves and to aim high in life.
