Histology Lab

Histology, also known as microscopic anatomy, is a branch of biology that studies the micro structure of cells, tissues, and organs under the microscope.

The department's Histology Laboratory is located on the 9th floor of the PPUKM Practical Building. We have 2 histology labs namely Histology Laboratory 5 and 6 that are specially equipped for the preparation of histological slides. Some of the equipment available in the Histology laboratory are:

  • Microtome
  • Oven
  • Incubator

This lab prepares slides for the learning and teaching during the Histology practical session according to the module. Learning slides will be provided as standard to the medical students in Year 1 and 2 as part of their training program. Slides provided meet the highest standards in accordance to the modules. In addition, the laboratory also serves as a center on microscopic research. In recent years, the laboratory received visitors from different levels and backgrounds of undergraduate and postgraduate students from within the Medical Faculty, various other UKM faculties and from outside the university.

Among the routine coloring techniques used in the Histology Laboratory are:

  • Hematoxilin And Eosin staining
  • Gordon Sweets staining
