Toshiba International Foundation Grants

Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) offers applications for grants for FY 2021. While the COVID-19 situations still remain uncertain and unforeseeable, you are cordially invited to consider an application for grants.

Eligibility Criteria:


  1. Non-profit organizations capable of performing the proposed project that has or will have a bank account in its officially registered name into which to receive the grant.
  2. Applicants who have received support for three consecutive years become ineligible to receive support for a fourth year under the same program. This measure enables TIFO to extend support to as many applicants as possible by de-emphasizing repeated long-term funding to the same recipients. Other than exceptional projects where TIFO finds compelling reasons for continued support for over three years, a guiding principle of TIFO’s grant policy is not to award grants for four consecutive years. While we do not regard such applications as ineligible, they are much less likely to receive support.


  1. Projects that meet Project Categories/ Areas for Grant
  2. For multi-year projects of up to three years duration, the Selection Committee will evaluate the project each year and decide whether or not TIFO will continue to extend support.

The following are ineligible and will not be accepted.

  1. Applications from individuals
  2. Application for expenses to stay in Japan for an extended period

Project Areas:

TIFO supports projects that promote understanding of Japan, and divides them into the following four categories:

● Symposia and seminars.

● Cultural programs.

● Research and studies.

● Programs that train students who will promote international understanding of Japan.

Grant Size and Duration :

  • TIFO grant amounts are determined on the basis of specific estimate contained in applications, and we expect grant funds are not to be used to pay for any costs other than those expressly detailed in the application. The entire award founded in the amount of grant for the project must be used for the stated project purpose only.
  • Projects, or a discrete part of a continuing project, that can be completed within one fiscal year (April 1st of one year to March 31st of the following year), with the provision that funding for discrete parts of a continuing project will be eligible for funding for a maximum of three consecutive years.Retrieved From: on 15/10/2020 

FY2021-2022 Fulbright Malaysian Scholar Program

The Malaysian Fulbright Scholar Program provides opportunities for Malaysian academics to develop or update their research through interaction with distinguished counterparts in the United States. By providing a mechanism and support for meeting and interacting with the best of American scholars, the program seeks to promote dialogue on subjects of mutual interest to Malaysia and the United States.

While these grants are typically research focused, applicants who are prepared to add a lecturing component to their proposals are particularly encouraged to apply. Further, all applicants will be asked to develop strategies for sharing Malaysian culture with social, civic and other groups while in the United States.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application.
  2. Minimum five years working experience in the related field.
  3. Faculty member in a university or a higher learning institution in Malaysia and eligible for sabbatical or other leaves.
  4. An excellent record of achievement as indicated by quality publications and professional activities.
  5. Sufficient proficiency in English appropriate to propose lecturing or research project to be carried out in the United States.
  6. A detailed statement of proposed activity for research or lecturing at a U.S. institution. The proposed project should contribute to the development of knowledge in your field and must be effectively investigated within the period of grant.
  7. Certification of good health.

Application Procedure:

Applicant from Malaysian universities and other higher learning institutions are requested to submit their completed application forms through their Vice-Chancellor / Director, or equivalent. A letter is required from the home University / Institute stating the benefits the applicant is entitled to during the 3-6 months sabbatical or other leaves in the United States.

Grant Duration :

    • It is a 3-6 months of research/lecturing at the American universities during the FY2021/2022 academic year (August through June).

The Biocodex Microbiota Foundation Research Project 2021

The Biocodex Microbiota Foundation funds research projects focused on human gut microbiota related to health and disease. Every year, the call for proposals covers a specific theme chosen by an International Scientific Committee. Either clinical or fundamental research proposals can be submitted. Theme for International Call for Projects 2021 is “FUNCTIONAL EFFECTS OF THE HUMAN GUT MICROBIOME ON AUTISM” topic:

Clinical effects of different microbiota interventions (such as antibiotics, FMT, diet, probiotics, etc.) in patients with autism.The grant is open to physicians, PhD’s and Pharm-D’s working in the subject area (gastroenterology, pediatrics, microbiology, infectious diseases and internal medicine, etc).

There are no geographic limitations of applicants. Candidates from all countries are potentially eligible.

A principal investigator having already received a Biocodex Microbiota Foundation international grant cannot apply anymore. However, principal investigator of a National Grant can apply for the International Grant.

Application Criteria:

All applications will be reviewed by the independent International Scientific Committee according to the following criteria:

The proposal’s consistency with the predetermined subject

Its scientific quality

Its originality

Its benefit to human health

The quality of the researcher

The quality of the research environment

The feasibility of the project

Skim Geran Penyelidikan Strategik – “Translational Research @ MoHE” (TR@M) merupakan skim geran yang memfokuskan kepada penyelidikan yang dapat menghasilkan output dan “outcome” berimpak kepada kerajaan, komuniti, industri dan akademia. Melalui skim geran penyelidikan ini juga, ia mampu untuk mengetengahkan dan menghebahkan kepentingan hasil penyelidikan yang telah dijalankan oleh Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi (IPT) yang banyak memberikan impak besar kepada pihak-pihak berkepentingan dalam konteks “quadruple helix”.

Kementerian juga akan memberikan tumpuan pada beberapa bidang keutamaan untuk difokuskan selaras dengan Bidang Ekonomi Utama Negara (NKEA). Setiap permohonan projek mestilah memenuhi salah satu bidang yang
telah ditetapkan berdasarkan Sektor Keutamaan Negara, Kluster
Penyelidikan dan Domain Penyelidikan seperti berikut:

(a) Sektor Keutamaan Negara (National Priority Area – NPA)
– Jaminan Makanan (Food Security);
– Jaminan Tenaga (Energy Security);
– Tanaman Perladangan (Plantation Crops);

kepada “National Policy on Industry 4.0”.

– Kesejahteraan Sosial & Ekonomi (Social & Economic Wellbeing); atau
– Teknologi Terkehadapan & Pembuatan Termaju (Frontier Technologies & Advanced Manufacturing)

Kertas cadangan penyelidikan (proposal) mestilah memenuhi skop penyelidikan seperti berikut:
(a) Penyelidikan yang mempunyai serahan hasil penyelidikan “research deliverables” (dari penyelidikan FRGS, TRGS, LRGS dll. yang berkaitan) yang berpotensi dan sedia untuk diterjemahkan dalam tempoh masa yang singkat untuk manfaat pihak berkepentingan dalam konteks “quadruple helix”;
(b) Penyelidikan yang merangkumi sekurang-kurangnya 70% elemen penyelidikan gunaan (applied) dan 30% elemen penyelidikan
(c) Penyelidikan berasaskan “demand driven”, “purpose driven” ataupun
“value driven”; dan
(d) Pendekatan pelaksanaan secara holistik yang memenuhi proses
dalam rantaian nilai (value chain).

Tempoh penyelidikan adalah sekurang-kurangnya enam (6) bulan dan tidak melebihi dua (2) tahun.

Jumlah peruntukan yang dipohon hendaklah tidak melebihi siling yang
ditetapkan berjumlah RM2 juta (berpadanan dengan skop penyelidikan yang
akan dilaksanakan). Penetapan siling peruntukan ini mestilah dipatuhi melainkan
terdapat apa-apa pengecualian atau arahan daripada JPT.

Spencer Foundation Research Grants on Education

The Small Research Grants Program supports education research projects that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived, with budgets up to $50,000 for projects ranging from one to five years. We accept applications three times per year.
