Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination
At UKM, we are committed to fostering an environment where every individual is valued and respected. Our Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Discrimination Policy is not merely a guideline; it is a firm commitment to uphold the dignity and rights of all members of our community. This commitment is grounded in Article 8 (Fundamental Liberties, Clause 2) of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia, which guarantees that all persons are equal before the law and entitled to equal protection. Through this policy, UKM embraces and upholds the principles of equality, diversity, inclusiveness, and non-discrimination across all aspects of its work, including teaching, research, and management. This includes ensuring equal rights and opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, sexuality, or other protected characteristics under Malaysian law. It reinforces that every individual no matter their identity or personal expression, has the right to dignity, respect, and equal participation in all aspects of university life. UKM also promotes practices that foster unity and integration, actively prevents discrimination, harassment, and bullying, and supports individuals requiring special assistance. This commitment extends to Persons with Disabilities (OKU), ensuring they have full and equitable access to learning systems, work environments, and campus life through initiatives such as the UKM Disability Admission Policy 2019. Furthermore, decision-making processes are guided by diverse perspectives, while recruitment and promotion criteria are regularly reviewed to eliminate bias, in alignment with relevant legal and institutional frameworks.
