EQ* – Does your institution provide dedicated training on Social aspects of Sustainability
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia offers training on the social aspects of sustainability for both staff and students. This training aims to equip the university community with the knowledge and skills to understand and address the social dimensions of sustainability, which include issues such as social equity, community development, human rights, and fair labor practices. Training on social sustainability helps individuals or organizations integrate social considerations into their environmental and economic practices, ultimately contributing to more inclusive, equitable, and resilient societies.

The social component in ESG focuses on how organizations interact with employees, communities, and society at large. It emphasizes human rights, equity, diversity, labor practices, and social well-being, ensuring that businesses operate ethically and contribute positively to society. Related SDGs:

Several examples of the training on social aspects of sustainability for both staff and students at UKM is shown below:
1. Essential Oil-Based Product Processing Technology Program (SDG9)
On 17 June 2025, the MyAgrosis Club collaborated with MARDI to successfully organize theEssential Oil-Based Product Processing Technology Program at MARDI Kuala Linggi and the Aromatic Plant Visit Site. This program aimed to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge on essential oil extraction and product processing technologies. Through lectures, technology demonstrations, and group activities, participants not only learned the process of essential oil production both theoretically and practically, but also had the opportunity to develop important skills such as teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking in addressing real-world challenges in the field.

2. UKM High-Risk Behaviour Awareness Program 2025 (SDG3)
On 20 December 2025, The University Health Centre successfully organised The UKM High-Risk Behaviour Awareness Program 2025 at Pusanika, collaboration with several agencies including the Hulu Langat District Health Office (PKD Hulu Langat), Majlis AIDS Malaysia, Insaf Murni, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Royal Malaysia Police, the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (UKM Branch),. The programme aimed to provide a clear understanding of high-risk behaviours such as smoking, vaping, drug abuse, unsafe sexual practices (HIV/AIDS) and bullying to prevent the spread of unhealthy behaviours within the campus community and to cultivate morally grounded and resilient university citizens. Students and staff received training through an explorace activity involving 10 checkpoints, comprising five HIV-related checkpoints, two on smoking/vaping, two on drugs, and one on bullying.

3. UKM Fire Drill Management Briefing (Residential Colleges) (SDG3)
On 15 December 2025, UKM Fire Drill Management Briefing (Residential Colleges), organized by Risk Management, Safety & Occupational Health Centre (ROSH-UKM). The briefing was attended by Incident Officers, college staff, fellows, and UKM students. It provided clear guidance to the residential college community on how to implement fire drill training in a more structured, coordinated, and effective manner in the future.

4. Psychological First Aid (PFA) Course (SDG3)
On 6 4 November 2025 University Health Center (PKU) UKM organized a Psychological First Aid (PFA) Course at the Pusanika AuditoriumUKM participants including students, staff, and members of the public. The course aimed to equip attendees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide immediate psychological support to individuals affected by crises or traumatic events. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and real-life scenarios, participants learned how to recognize signs of psychological distress, offer appropriate support, and refer individuals to professional help when necessary. The program emphasized the importance of empathy, active listening, and effective communication in fostering resilience and emotional well-being within the community.

5. Empowering Graduates with Power BI (SDG4)
The Career Development Centre (UKM-Career) successfully organized the program “Empowering Graduates with Power BI”, which took place from 17 to 20 November 2025. The program involved 100 final-year students from various faculties. The main objective of this program was to ensure that UKM graduates are highly competitive as they step into the professional world. Based on participant feedback, the program successfully enhanced their skills in data visualization, dashboard creation, and big data analysis.
The program was fully sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), demonstrating the ministry’s commitment to producing quality graduates who are relevant to industry needs.

6. SD Guthrie – Campus Engagement & Protégé Speed Interview (SDG4)
On 5 November 2025, the Career Development Centre (UKM-Career), in collaboration with SD Guthrie, organized the Campus Engagement & Protégé Speed Interview 2025 program. A total of 80 participants attended the career talk delivered by Mr. Amir Hafiz Halim, Talent Acquisition at SD Guthrie International, who shared insights on the company’s background and career development opportunities. The program continued with the Protégé Speed Interview, involving 100 candidates who were interviewed by Mr. Shaun Ram, Group HR (CoE) – Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding, SD Guthrie Berhad. This program not only provided students with exposure to industry requirements but also offered candidates the opportunity to showcase their potential in a real professional environment.

7. Unite to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls: A Multidisciplinary Perspective Program (SDG5)
The Tun Fatimah Hashim Women’s Leadership Centre (PKWTFH) at UKM successfully hosted the Unite to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls: A Multidisciplinary Perspective Program on 11 December 2025. The event aimed to inspire and empower women in the aerospace industry by highlighting their contributions, challenges, and opportunities in the field. demonstrating strong support and concern for the issue of digital safety for women and girls. The encouraging turnout reflects the commitment of the UKM community and collaborative partners in supporting this agenda. This multidisciplinary sharing not only provided new perspectives but also received positive feedback from participants who filled the hall throughout the session.

8. Emotional Management Skills Workshop (SDG3)
The Emotional Management Skills Workshop, held on 29 August 2025 organized by Tun Fatimah Hashim Women’s Leadership Centre (PKWTFH)in collaboration with Adab Youth Garage (AYG), was successfully conducted. The program featured active participation from attendees, beginning with participant registration and a welcoming speech, followed by a lecture session with Dr. Norulhuda Sarnon, interactive discussions, group activities, and a constructive Q&A session. The aim of the Emotional Management Skills Workshop was to equip participants with practical knowledge and strategies to understand, manage, and regulate their emotions effectively, enhancing personal well-being, interpersonal relationships, and overall emotional resilience.

9. Sulam Asli-Pimpin 2025 Program – Jalinan Mesra Watan @ Chini (SDG10)
The SULAM ASLI – Pimpin Jalinan Mesra Watan @ Chini 2025 program was successfully held from June 13 to 15, 2025, at the Tasik Chini Research Centre (PPTC), ALAF-UKM. Organized by Research Group UKM-TR2024-047 and the UKM School of Liberal Studies (Pusat Pengajian Citra), the event received strategic support from PPTC, the UKM Youth Empowerment Centre (PERKASA), HRD Corp, and the Pahang State Parks Corporation (PTNP) in conjunction with National Training Week 2025.
Driven by a commitment to community engagement and sustainable knowledge, the program featured high-impact activities including educational visits to the Tasik Chini area and the celebration of Orang Asli cultural heritage through traditional art demonstrations and dialogue sessions with local leaders and researchers. Participants also engaged in trail trekking, kayaking, and outdoor recreation to foster a deeper connection with the environment. Furthermore, the program gave back to the students of SK Tasik Chini and the local community through diverse initiatives ranging from robotics classes, motivational talks, and sign language lessons to free health and eye screenings made possible through collaborations with HRD Corp, Roboshop Technologies, and the Pahang Deaf Association.

10. Engagement Session for SMAKU and Awareness on Persons with Disabilities (OKU) at UKM (SDG10)
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), through the Registrar’s Department’s Disabled Services and Support Unit (UPS-OKU), held an engagement session on October 11, 2025, for the 2025/2026 academic intake. Officiated by UKM Registrar Tuan Haji Zanudin Mohd Daud, the event connected the Disabled Student Secretariat (SMAKU) and the Cakna OKU Volunteer Club with 10 new students, bringing the university’s total to 102 students and 51 staff members with disabilities. This annual initiative reinforces UKM’s commitment to an inclusive campus, supported by a RM285,000.00 infrastructure upgrade approved by the Ministry of Higher Education in June 2025.
