Master of Social Science (Strategic and Security Analysis)
About this programme
The Master of Social Science in Strategic and Security Analysis is a long-standing programme, established since the Strategic Studies International Relations (SSIR) department was known as the Strategic and Security Studies Unit (UPSK) in 1984. This Master’s programme has attracted a considerable amount of applicants hailed from the public service and graduate students from various streams. It has now become a favourite programme of choice among the mid-career officers from the National Security Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) and other governmental agencies as a stepping stone to climb up their career ladder. The course syllabus include local and international dimensions of traditional and non-traditional security studies, providing students with opportunities to scrutinize Malaysian security issues and key strategic concerns around the world.

Degree | • Graduate with a Bachelor's degree with Honours/equivalent | |
• Minimum CGPA 2.75 | ||
• Having an honours bachelor's degree in the discipline of international relations, political science or in any area similar to both of these disciplines is an advantage to be accepted and | ||
• For candidates who do not achieve a CGPA of 2.75 or are graduates in other disciplines, a working experience of more than 5 years, especially in the security sector, will be considered for program admission at the discretion of the program admission committee. | ||
Malay language | • Pass with honors in Bahasa Malaysia for the SPM which is the special requirements of the program. | • For candidates who are not Malaysian citizens but wish to enter this coursework master's program, there is a requirement for the candidate to submit evidence of a proficiency certificate for Malay language skills that includes speaking, comprehension and writing from a credible and reliable recognized body. |
