FSK UKM was offered Master programme in two distinct modes: Research Mode and Coursework Mode.
Research mode program was conducted primarily through research. In FSK UKM about 22 research fields available for prospective candidates to choose from. Throughout their studies, students will conduct research work under the supervision of dedicated academic staff from various expertise who are involved in various cutting-edge research areas that have an impact on society and the country.
The Coursework Mode programme is structured to be completed within a one and half year to two years study period, combining coursework and a dissertation to achieve its learning objectives. A total of four programs are offered under this mode at FSK UKM.
The main goal for both programs is to explore novel discoveries and develop advanced critical thinking skills, ultimately producing highly qualified and competitive graduates for the job market.

This advanced degree opens doors to high-level careers in academia, industry, and the public sector. The strong research focus prepares graduates for roles that require expertise, critical analysis, and leadership.
Lecturer:
Health Sciences Consultant: Provide expert advice to government agencies, private companies, healthcare facilities, and NGOs on specialized matters related to nutrition, environmental health, occupational safety, biomedical analysis, and public health policy.
Research Consultant: Offer expertise in designing research studies, data analysis, and interpreting results for various clients in the health and life sciences industries.
Research Officer in Government and Private Institutes: Lead or contribute to research projects at national research institutes (e.g., Institute for Medical Research), university research centers, or R&D departments in multinational companies (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food science).
Clinical Specialist: Assume advanced practice or specialist roles in hospitals or clinics in fields such as Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Science, Radiotherapy, or Audiology, often handling complex cases and developing new treatment protocols.
Public Health Analyst / Epidemiologist: Work with government health departments (e.g., Ministry of Health) or international bodies to investigate disease patterns, manage health programs, and shape public health policies.
Environmental Health Officer: Specialize in ensuring public safety by monitoring and enforcing environmental health regulations.
Regulatory Affairs Specialist: Ensure that products (medicines, medical devices, food) comply with all national and international regulations before they can be marketed.
This program involves research under the close supervision of an appointed supervisory committee throughout the duration of the study until graduation.
Students are required to take the Research Methodology and Biostatistics course. Additionally, international students are required to enroll in the Malay Language course, which is conducted by the CITRA UKM Centre.

Completion of Original Research
The student must successfully complete an original research project under the guidance of an appointed supervisory committee.
Thesis Submission and Examination
Submit a written thesis that complies with the academic standards and formatting guidelines set by UKM.
The thesis will be rigorously examined and assessed by both internal and external examiners.
Viva Voce (Oral Examination)
Attend and successfully defend the thesis in a viva voce (oral examination).
Publication Requirement
Produce one (1) scientific article related to the research that has at least been accepted for publication in a Web of Science (WoS) indexed journal.
Compulsory Coursework
Pass the Research Methodology and Biostatistics course.
International students must pass the Malay Language course conducted by the UKM CITRA Centre.
Duration of Study
Fulfill the minimum and maximum duration of study as stipulated by the university’s regulations.
Administrative and Financial Compliance
Settle all administrative formalities and financial obligations to the university.

2. Biomedical Science Research Project I

Depending on the module of choice, students undergo laboratory attachments at:
• Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz (Modules: Infectious Disease & Chemical Pathology)
• Biocompatibility Laboratory UKM (Module: Natural Product Toxicology)
• A range of transferable skills are integrated and embedded into the curriculum.
• Curriculum is relevant to meet the needs of the 4th Industrial Revolution
• The teaching and learning approaches for these courses will include multimedia usage in addition to active learning, team-based learning, collaborative learning, problem-based learning (PBL) and reflection to enable critical skilling among students.
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field (i.e: Dietetics, Nutritional Science/ Nutrition, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Science, Food Technology, Food Service management or other suitable sciecne subject) with CGPA ≥ 2.75 from and institutions of higher learning recognized by the senate;
• Those with CGPA of <2.75 to ≥ 2.5 with 5 years of work experience in the filed listed above are also eligible to apply
