This program is conducted in one (1) day and involves the participation of five (5) staff members and five (5) students from each of the fourteen (14) faculties at UKM. Each group needs to complete seven (7) activity checkpoints with 20 minutes allocated for each checkpoint. The teams will move from one checkpoint to the next, and each group will be given a completion card to be stamped at each checkpoint they complete. The use of smartphones is prohibited during the activities at the checkpoints.
Checkpoint 1: Waste to Treasure
At this checkpoint, there are 10 cards containing recyclable materials. The cards will be flipped over. Each group will select 4 cards with materials that can be recycled and create something from the chosen materials. Tools like scissors, glue, and tape will be provided for this activity. Once completed, participants must get a stamp from the facilitator at the checkpoint.
Checkpoint 2: Trivia Tree – Watering & Selfie
Each group will be given a trivia question related to trees. Participants need to guess the species or name of the tree. After that, participants must find the tree in the surrounding area, water it, and take a group selfie while watering the tree. The photo must be shown to the facilitator to get a stamp for the completion card.
Checkpoint 3: Nature Climb
One representative from each group will play the environmental snake and ladder game. The representative will roll the dice and move according to the number rolled. The representative must answer the given question, and other participants may assist in answering the question. If the question cannot be answered, the representative must move one step backward. The game continues until the participant reaches the finish square within 20 minutes. After completing, participants must get a stamp from the facilitator at the checkpoint.
Checkpoint 4: Energy Efficiency Escape Room
A room demonstrating electricity waste will be provided. The group needs to enter the room and practice energy-saving habits. Participants must take action based on the electricity waste situations displayed. After completing the task, participants must get a stamp from the facilitator at the checkpoint.
Checkpoint 5: Environmental Guess the Drawing
One representative from each group will draw on a whiteboard. Group members need to guess what is being drawn. The artist cannot speak or give any gestures to the group members. The artist must draw based on a title or environmental or climate change-related topic provided by the facilitator. Once completed, participants must get a stamp from the facilitator at the checkpoint.
Checkpoint 6: Pollution Discovery
A picture depicting pollution and its effects on humans and the environment will be shown. Participants need to identify five (5) types of pollution in the image, five (5) causes of pollution, the effects of pollution, and think of the best solutions to reduce the pollution. After completing the task, participants must get a stamp from the facilitator at the checkpoint.
Checkpoint 7: Water Filtration
This checkpoint is located at the lake of the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment, UKM area. Participants need to collect water samples from the lake using the provided plastic bottles. They must use materials found around the area, such as large stones, small stones, sand, and leaves, to filter the water. Photos of the water before and after the filtration process will be taken as proof of participation. After completing the task, participants must get a stamp from the facilitator at the checkpoint.

8. Wacana Kelestarian Bil 1/2024 : Agricultural Land Use Change and Food Security in Indonesia
On March 13, 2024, Wacana Kelestarian Bil 1/2024 was delivered online by Dr. Muhammad Yasar, an Alumni of LESTARI from Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The session, titled “Agricultural Land Use Change and Food Security in Indonesia,” received an overwhelming response, with a maximum attendance of 95 participants from both within and outside UKM.
Dr. Muhammad Yasar highlighted that paddy fields are critical for food security, particularly for rice self-sufficiency. However, the conversion of paddy land remains alarming, leading to a decline in food production and environmental losses, such as the reduction of conservation areas.
Using case studies from Indonesia, he demonstrated how land use changes have impacted food security. Projections indicate a continued decline in paddy field areas by 2045, with an estimated deficit of 419,739 hectares if the situation is not properly managed. His presentation included an analysis of national paddy land availability from 2019 to 2035, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable land management policies.
