Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has embarked on a transformative sustainability journey, guided by a long-term commitment to creating positive impacts for people, the planet and prosperity. Since the introduction of the Physical Campus Development Master Plan in 2007, UKM has progressively integrated sustainability principles into its governance, operations, teaching, research and community engagement.
Over the years, UKM has strengthened its sustainability ecosystem through strategic milestones, including participation in international sustainability rankings, the establishment of dedicated sustainability governance structures, the development of the UKM Sustainability Strategic Plan 2021–2030 and the launch of the UKM Sustainability Policy 2030. These initiatives have been further reinforced through active engagement with global networks such as the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN), Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and other international sustainability partnerships.
Today, sustainability is embedded across all aspects of the university, driving innovation, responsible resource management, impactful research and community well-being. Guided by the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UKM continues to champion sustainable development through collaborative partnerships, evidence-based solutions and transformative actions that contribute to a resilient and sustainable future for Malaysia and the global community.
