Researcher Biography

Associate Professor Dr Cila Umat is a lecturer at the Audiology Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She joined UKM as a tutor in 1993 after graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Physics from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi, Selangor. She was appointed as a lecturer in 1996 after obtaining her Postgraduate Diploma in Audiology and Masters in Audiology from Macquarie University, Sydney Australia in 1995 and 1996, respectively. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cila has been in the UKM Cochlear Implant team since 1997 and therefore, developed her interest and further her Ph.D. study at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia in 2002-2005 in the area of Cochlear Implant Psychophysics. After obtaining her Ph.D. in 2005, her research interests are primarily related to cochlear implantation, especially in pediatrics. She is also currently lead an innovative project in developing an automated and interactive hearing screening device, which is in the commercialization stage.
