In conjunction with the inaugural INBIOSIS UKM Engineering Biology (Engine.Bio@INBIOSIS) program 2026, the INBIOSIS Centre for Bioinformatics Research (CBR) is pleased to provide the INBIOSIS CBR Grant Award to selected recipients from the program. This research award is devised for one Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS) project for microbial analysis in any desired sample of interest by the applicant(s). This award, utilizing the INBIOSIS Sequencing Service, provides hands-on genomics techniques and bioinformatic analysis, with a complete project report ready for journal publication/project completion. Please refer to the guidelines provided below for the submission and selection process.
Who is eligible?
-
Registered applicants of the INBIOSIS CRISPR Workshop 2026. Please provide payment confirmation details in the Grant Application section.
-
Applicant who is already conducting WGS research or is interested in performing Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)-based genomics or metagenomics research.
-
Applicant from Malaysia-based academic institutions (IPTA/IPTS) and Government Research Institutions (GRIs) as the project PI. As this grant aims to promote open research and joint research publication, researchers from the industry/private sector, are not eligible for this grant award but may consult our INBIOSIS Sequencing Service team for customizable contract service project.
What is on offer?
-
Long-read sequencing (WGS Genome/WGS Metagenomics) of DNA samples originated from microbes
-
Coverage:
-
Up to 8 Gbp output per one WGS Genome/Metagenomics project
-
Up to 6 samples per one WGS Genome/Metagenomics project
-
This grant caters for DNA library preparation, sequencing and bioinformatics analysis from the project. Applicant is required to prepare the DNA samples that fulfil the QC (Quality Control) parameters, on his/her own. INBIOSIS is not responsible for the DNA preparation and holds the right to cancel the award if the applicant cannot provide QC-passed DNA samples 3 months after the Grant award announcement.
-
Publication-ready WGS project report for journal submission/project completion. For a project intended for manuscript publication, listing of authors from the INBIOSIS Sequencing Service team, is mandatory.
Terms and Conditions
-
Applicant is allowed to apply for one project only as the project PI.
-
This grant application is subject to slot availability and the deadline of the INBIOSIS CRISPR Workshop 2026. Subject to slot availability, the grant application deadline is 31 August 2026 (Whichever comes first).
-
This grant is fully supported by INBIOSIS CBR, with the following scope;
-
Consultation on DNA sample and DNA library preparation and QC procedure
-
Consultation/demonstration on microbial DNA sequencing at INBIOSIS facilities
-
Consultation/demonstration on standard bioinformatics analysis
-
Consultation on final result report
-
Discussion on manuscript preparation and submission
-
No monetary disbursement and in-kind consumables provided by INBIOSIS UKM to the grant applicants/recipients. All the hands-on procedures and bioinformatic analysis will be conducted at INBIOSIS facilities.
