INTRODUCTION

Optometry is an independent profession whose services are directly available to the public. Masters of Health Science (Clinical Optometry) is a one and half year program at postgraduate level that prepares students for advanced techniques and skills to enhance their ability to diagnose and manage visual disorders.

The programme consists of structured coursework, research and clinical practical training. Students will undergo clinical placement and training at various tertiary hospitals nationwide. Throughout the clinical practicum students will be exposed to various methods of clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of ocular diseases by the Ophthalmologists. Students will also gain clinical training in sub-specialty fields of Optometry such as Advanced Contact Lenses, Advanced Binocular Vision and Geriatric Optometry. In the final semester, students are also required to carry out a research project in a sub-speciality area of Optometry under close supervision of faculty members.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor Degree in related field with a good Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or any Institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate;
  • International applicant should get a minimum score of 580 for TOEFL or Band 6.5 for IELTS
  • Bahasa Melayu is compulsory for all foreign students and must be taken and passed prior to graduation.
