International Geothermal Week Malaysia 2025 (IGWM2025)

The International Geothermal Week Malaysia 2025 (IGWM2025) was successfully organized by Geothermal Resources Sdn. Bhd. (GRSB) — a UKM startup — with support from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Held from 5–8 October 2025 at Ulu Slim, Perak, the event was officiated by YB Puan Salina Samsudin, ADUN Behrang, and highlighted the potential of geothermal energy as a sustainable and low-carbon energy source.

The programme featured various activities including industry exhibitions, research demonstrations, fishing competitions, community feasts, and charity contributions to local villagers and Orang Asli communities. A special Pos Malaysia stamp series was also launched to promote awareness of Malaysia’s geothermal hotspots — Ulu Slim (Perak), Lojing (Kelantan), and Apas Kiri (Sabah).

UKM’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Development & Infrastructure), Prof. Sr. Ts. Dr. Adi Irfan Che Ani, emphasized that the Ulu Slim Geothermal Research Centre will serve as a national hub for renewable energy innovation through strong collaboration between academia and industry.
