Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is committed to developing clear ethical values, including diversity, honesty, respect, and fairness, as fundamental principles guiding its academic and administrative culture. These values are embedded into training programs at all levels of the organization, ensuring that students, faculty, and staff uphold ethical standards in their actions and decisions.

Through structured workshops, leadership programs, and professional ethics training, UKM fosters a culture of integrity, inclusivity, and responsible governance. By prioritizing ethical awareness, the university empowers individuals to contribute positively to society while maintaining the highest standards of academic and professional conduct.

1) The Karisma Leadership Talent Program (Karisma Pemikir Madani UKM)

30 June – 1 July 2025, The Karisma Leadership Talent Program organized by the Center for Professional & Leadership Development (Profesional-UKM), is an empowerment, governance, and leadership program designed to shape leaders based on the UKM Leadership Competency Dictionary. Participants included university administrators consisting of Chairpersons of Centers, Editors-in-Chief/Journal Editors (for university level Scopus/WOS indexed journals) and Assistant Deans.The program’s focus on governance  ensures accountability, while the inclusion of diverse roles from Assistant Deans to Journal Editors promotes a culture of diversity and mutual respect across different academic and administrative disciplines.

2) Generic Competency Development Program – Work Well-being Program: Building Balance in the Digital & Technological World

On 23-25 June 2025, Center for Professional & Leadership Development UKM organized a course on Generic Competency Development Program – Work Well-being Program: Building Balance in the Digital & Technological World. By focusing on work-life balance and career development, the university demonstrates a deep respect for its staff’s boundaries and a commitment to fairness in professional growth. The program’s inclusive design for all warga UKM ensures that diversity is valued, while the use of a transparent competency model promotes honesty and meritocracy. Ultimately, by linking well-being to productivity, UKM facilitates a sustainable environment where ethical self-care and professional excellence are balanced.

3) Generic Competency Development Program – Building Self-Identity Week for the Future World

The “Building Self-Identity Week for the Future World” program, a core component of the Generic Competency Development initiative, was held from 22 -24 July 2025. Conducted entirely online, this program focused on the Work Well-being Cluster, encompassing three critical competencies: Work Engagement, Work-Life Balance, and Career Development. This program demonstrates a commitment to diversity and respect by equipping the community with both local and international communication skills, while sessions on faith, piety, and psychosocial well-being ensure that honesty and integrity are cultivated from an internal moral foundation rather than mere compliance. Furthermore, by embedding work-life balance and fairness into the official Work Well-being Cluster, the university ensures that productivity is achieved through a sustainable and equitable environment. Ultimately, through Profesional-UKM, the university transforms abstract ethical values into practical competencies, fostering a workplace where character, mental health, and professional excellence are balanced for the “Future World”.

4) Empowering Future Leaders Program: Strategic Leadership & Soft Skills Enhancement, Faculty of Science & Technology, National University of Malaysia (UKM)

On 23 – 25 May 2025, Center for Professional & Leadership Development UKM organized a workshop on Empowering Future Leaders Program: Strategic Leadership & Soft Skills Enhancement, Faculty of Science & Technology, National University of Malaysia (UKM). Through this workshop UKM actively fosters a holistic and ethical organizational culture by offering inclusive leadership training that spans all professional schemes and grades. By focusing on holistic soft skill competencies alongside strategic leadership, the university ensures that its staff members are not only technically proficient but also grounded in respect, fairness, and transparent communication. This comprehensive approach demonstrates that UKM values diversity by engaging a wide range of professional backgrounds, while simultaneously promoting honesty and integrity as foundational elements of its “continuous excellence” aspiration. Ultimately, by empowering 38 diverse leaders through a standardized competency framework, the faculty ensures that its future governance is both high-performing and ethically sound.

5) Mind Transformation Program (PTM) No. 1/2025

On 20 -24 January 2025,the Career Development Unit of the Human Resources Division UKM organized the Mind Transformation Program (PTM) No. 1/2025. This session hosted 99 participants across all staffing categories Academic, Management & Professional, and Support groups. Through the strategic implementation of the Mind Transformation, Work Well-being, and Strategic Leadership programs, UKM has successfully institutionalized a holistic organizational culture that bridges the gap between professional excellence and ethical integrity. The shift toward prioritizing work-life balance and psychosocial well-being has not only maximized productivity but also ensured fairness in career development.

6) Mind Transformation Program No. 2/2025

On 13 – 18 April 2025 ,the Career Development Unit of the Human Resources Division UKM organized the Mind Transformation Program (PTM) No. 2/2025. This session was attended by 80 participants from the UKM Support Group representing various Responsibility Centers (PTJs). Notably, this marks the first time the program was held off-campus since the pandemic, allowing participants to acquire knowledge through diverse learning methods beyond traditional lectures. The PTM exposed participants to essential elements of nationhood, the functions of civil servants, and the benefits provided by UKM, while also focusing on personal skills and first-class thinking to develop holistic staff members.

7) UKM Regional Identity Program Series 8 (Program Jati Diri Watan UKM Siri 8)

On 14 – 16 February 2025, UKM held the UKM Regional Identity Program Series 8 (Program Jati Diri Watan UKM Siri 8) at National Training Center, Gunung Pulai, Johor organized by the Registrar’s Department UKM. Jati Diri Watan Program aims to foster the spirit of camaraderie, strengthen the value of leadership and teamwork in an effort to drive the goals of this Watan University.

This series has involved a total of 80 participants consisting of management & professional officers (P&P) and support staff. In this camp, The primary objective of this program is to bridge the gap between the university’s top management and the participants, strengthening leadership values and teamwork while instilling the UKM ‘Jati Diri’ (Self-Identity) spirit to navigate the evolving changes and current needs of this National University (Universiti Watan).”

This session was attended by 100 participants from the UKM Support Group representing various Responsibility Centers (PTJs). The organization of this Mind Transformation Program (PTM) extensively exposed participants to elements of nationhood, the roles and functions of civil servants, the benefits provided by UKM, and personal skills alongside first-class thinking, aimed at developing holistic value to UKM staff.

9) Mind Transformation Program No. 4/2025

On 12 – 17 October 2025 ,the Career Development Unit of the Human Resources Division UKM organized the Mind Transformation Program (PTM) No. 4/2025. This session was attended by 100 participants from the UKM Support Group representing various Responsibility Centers. The program provided extensive exposure to elements of nationhood, the roles of civil servants, and the benefits provided by UKM, while emphasizing personal development and “first-class thinking” to cultivate holistic staff. A significant addition to this series was a new module on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Global Sustainability, led by the Institute of Climate Change (IPI). Through this program, UKM facilitates a holistic ethical culture by treating its 100 Support Group participants as vital stakeholders. By combining traditional civil service ethics with modern SDG sustainability goals, UKM ensures that honesty, fairness, and respect are practiced at every level, creating a workforce that is both professionally competent and socially responsible.

10) Disability Equality Training (DET) for Frontliners

A series of Disability Equality Training (DET) sessions was held across three series from July 8 to July 10, 2025. DET is a comprehensive methodology designed to understand disability issues through the lens of the Social Model. This internationally recognized training is highly effective in fostering inclusive societies and environments. This specific series was opened to UKM frontliners including Nurses, Auxiliary Police, Security Guards, General Service Assistants, and Counter Staff to enhance their understanding of the needs and proper engagement protocols for the person with disabilities (OKU) community at UKM. Consequently, the UKM Disability Service Unit (UPS-OKU) provided this platform for all frontline personnel to participate in this vital empowerment initiative. 11) Career Enhancement Workshop

The Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia General Staff Union (KESUKMA) organized a Career Enhancement Workshop from 17 – 19 October 2025, at The Katerina Hotel in Batu Pahat, Johor. This program was designed not only to strengthen the potential of the UKM workforce but also to foster closer ties and camaraderie among union members. The event concluded with a strong sense of solidarity and a shared commitment to championing the welfare and professional development of all UKM staff. This program highlights the crucial role of collective representation in that process. By supporting workshops organized by the staff union (KESUKMA), UKM demonstrates that its ethical culture is inclusive and collaborative.

12) Best Practices Sharing Course in UKM Academic Management

The Career Development Unit of the Human Resources Division, Registrar’s Department, in collaboration with the Center for Academic Management, held the Best Practices Sharing Course in UKM Academic Management on October 2, 2025, at the Senate Room UKM. The course aimed to strengthen and enhance staff understanding of work procedures involving student recruitment, student pass and visa management, course registration, examination management, graduation processes, and the enforcement of academic regulations at UKM, in alignment with the latest policies and regulations.This program is a critical component in ensuring that fairness, honesty, and respect are operationalized across the university’s administrative backbone.

13) Staff Quality Enhancement Workshop for the Vehicle Unit

The Staff Quality Enhancement Workshop for the Vehicle Unit was held from January 11 to 12, 2025, at Bayou Resort, Melaka. This workshop was designed to strengthen staff morale in performing their duties, boost self-motivation, and foster closer relationships and cooperation among the personnel of the Vehicle Unit under the Administration & Facilities Division (BPK), Registrar’s Department. This workshop serves as a clear indicator that UKM’s ethical framework extends beyond administrative offices into technical and operational divisions.

14) Forum: Building a Happy Work Culture to Enhance Public Service Quality

The UKM Registrar’s Department, in a strategic collaboration between the UKM Value Management System Team (SPAN 2.0) and the university’s three major staff representative bodies the UKM Academic Staff Association (PKAUKM), the Administrative and Professional Officers Association (PERTADI), and the UKM General Staff Union (KESUKMA) successfully organized the Forum: “Building a Happy Work Culture to Enhance Public Service Quality” on October 9, 2025. This unified initiative brought together diverse segments of the university workforce to discuss the synergy between employee well-being and the delivery of high-standard public service. This forum is the definitive evidence of UKM’s commitment to ethical values at every single level of the organization. By involving PKAUKM (Academics), PERTADI (Management & Professionals), and KESUKMA (Support Staff), UKM demonstrates a truly holistic ethical culture by breaking down professional silos. 15) Administrative Secretarial Enhancement Course

The Career Development Unit of the Human Resources Division, Registrar’s Department, in collaboration with the UKM General Staff Union (KESUKMA), successfully organized the Administrative Secretarial Enhancement Course on October 29, 2025, at the Bangi Avenue Convention Center (BACC). This program was specifically designed to empower Administrative Assistants (Operational) performing secretarial duties by enhancing their technical knowledge and professional efficiency. Beyond serving as a platform for learning and experience sharing, the course effectively strengthened the secretarial spirit and built a robust professional network among the university’s administrative personnel. UKM facilitates a holistic ethical culture by empowering its secretarial staff to be more than just “operators.” By investing in their professionalism and networking, the university ensures that honesty, respect, and fairness are practiced at the front lines of every office, creating an administrative environment that is both efficient and ethically grounded across all levels of the organization.

16) LinkedIn as a Reflection of the Nation: Building the Professional Identity of the UKM Community

On 30 October 2025, The UKM Centre for Professional and Leadership Development (Profesional-UKM) successfully organized the LinkedIn as a Reflection of the Nation: Building the Professional Identity of the UKM Community leadership competencies, and leadership competency assessment at the university level. The course was attended by 25 participants, comprising both Academic and Management & Professional staff from various Responsibility Centers (PTJs), and was led by an expert speaker in the field of LinkedIn. Structured around five specialized modules, the course aimed to empower UKM professionals to strategically build and manage their professional identities. In an era of global digitalization, the program positioned LinkedIn not merely as a social network, but as a vital medium for establishing credibility, expanding professional networks, and promoting individual expertise as a contribution to both the university and the nation. UKM facilitates a holistic ethical culture by ensuring its staff are not only “internally” ethical but “externally” professional. By training 25 key leaders in LinkedIn strategy, the university ensures that honesty, respect, and fairness are communicated clearly to the world, turning every staff member into a digital ambassador for the “National University” (Universiti Watan).

17) Task and Responsibility Coordination Workshop for General Service Assistants

The Registrar’s Department organized the Task and Responsibility Coordination Workshop for General Service Assistants (H1), held at Residensi UTMKL from January 18 to 19, 2025. The primary objective of the workshop was to review and standardize the work scopes of General Service Assistants across all divisions of the Registrar’s Department, in alignment with the implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA). This initiative is expected to deepen staff understanding of their specific roles, thereby enhancing productivity and efficiency while ensuring a more systematic and organized workflow to meet the university’s evolving needs.UKM facilitates a holistic ethical culture by ensuring that no staff category is invisible. By coordinating the duties of the General Service Assistants, the university reinforces fairness and respect at the foundational level of its operations, ensuring that the entire workforce is empowered to deliver systematic and high-quality results with integrity.
