UKM is nationally recognized as a leader and innovator in the realm of sustainability. We continue to strive for excellence and push the bounds to achieve sustainable solutions across campus. Below are many of the recognitions we have been awarded for our work in sustainability.
Emerging Scholar Award

Congratulations are extended to Nurin Erdiani binti Mhd Fadzil, a Doctor of Philosophy candidate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), on receiving the Emerging Scholar Award at the 21st International Conference on Technology and Society 2025.
This prestigious award was presented by the Common Ground Research Networks, Illinois, United States, as a recognition for young researchers worldwide who demonstrate academic excellence, research commitment, and great potential to shape the future landscape of knowledge and technology.
At the conference, Nurin presented her research titled “Artificial Intelligence and Multimodal Pedagogy: A Synergistic Approach to ESL Writing.” She was one of only five recipients selected globally for this distinguished award, alongside representatives from renowned institutions such as the University of Cambridge (UK), Ontario College of Art and Design University (Canada), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the University of the Pacific, San Francisco (USA).
President’s Recognition for Young Investigators Diploma

Congratulations to Dr. Fitri Fareez Ramli (Department of Pharmacology), Faculty of Medicine on Ramli receiving the President’s Recognition for Young Investigators Award from the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology (Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum, CINP). Dr. Fitri Fareez was presented with the award during the 36th World Congress of Neuropsychopharmacology and the 9th Asian College of Neuropsychopharmacology Meeting, held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre on 15–18 June 2025.

John Ogden President’s Membership Award

Congratulations to Ts. Dr. Wee Hin Boo on the achievement of receiving the John Ogden President’s Membership Award from the International Coral Reef Society for the term 2025–2027.
Runners-Up Award in the Business/Technology

Congratulations to YBrs. Prof. Madya Dr. Wan Mohd Hirwani Wan Hussain, for his remarkable success the Runners-Up Award in the Business/Technology category at the Southern California Book Festival 2025 for his book, AI-Preneurs – Revolutionizing Entrepreneurship with Artificial Intelligence, published by Penerbit UKM.
This prestigious recognition not only highlights his excellence in research and scholarly writing but also strengthens UKM’s position as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurial technology. AI-Preneurs serves as a valuable reference in academia and industry, exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the entrepreneurial landscape.
May this achievement inspire more high-quality publications that benefit society and contribute to global technological and innovation advancements.

National Young Engineering Icon Award 2024
Congratulations Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Hassimi Bin Abu Hasan on receiving the National Young Engineering Icon Award 2024 organized by the Malaysian Engineers Board on 3 October 2024.

British Academy’s ODA: International Interdisciplinary Research Projects 2024
Congratulations to Dr. Siti Nur Diyana Mahmud, Researcher under the field of Sustainability Literacy, UKM-YSD Sustainability Chair, for her success in obtaining the British Academy’s ODA: International Interdisciplinary Research Projects 2024 grant. His research project entitled “Voices of the Rainforest: Co-creating a Traditional Ecological Knowledge-based Climate Change Curriculum Framework with Indigenous Communities in Malaysia” has successfully received funding amounting to RM1,057,608.00.

UKM Library Third Place Winner of the Academic Library SDG Competition
The UKM Library has successfully won third place in the 2024 Academic Library SDG Competition organized by the Academic Libraries Standing Committee (JKPA) under the Malaysian Librarians Association.
The Jiwa Watan SDG Corner project that highlights the uniqueness of the traditional Malay house as a symbol of sustainability and cultural heritage has successfully attracted the attention of the judges.
This achievement not only proves the library’s commitment to sustainable development, but also the spirit of teamwork and high creativity.
With this victory, UKM Library received a cash prize of RM600 which will continue to support our efforts in spreading awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).



Commendation for Innovation in Sustainability
Minister of Natural Resources and Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad delivered the opening speech at the Annual Dinner and Leadership in Sustainability Awards organized by the Malaysia Green Building Council (GBC) last night.
The event was attended by companies and researchers involved in promoting green building sustainability through collaboration between industry, universities and communities.
On this occasion, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industrial and Society Network Affairs), Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Nordin receives the Leadership in Sustainability Award (Commendation for Innovation in Sustainability) on behalf of the National University of Malaysia (UKM). UKM is the only higher education institution to have won this award.
For this award, UKM has sent a research project titled Decarbonization of Bertam, Penang using Twin Technology. This project is led by UKM Pakarunding (UKMP) together with Consultants from Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) led by Prof. By. Dr. Lim Chin Haw.
The UKM hopes that this recognition will encourage more consultants to lead research projects that can impact all walks of life at the national and international level.

Congratulations to Dr Fazren Azmi, senior lecturer of the Faculty of Pharmacy who was successfully awarded the Dr Ranjeet Bhagwan Singh Research Grant 2023 today 15 August. This award was presented by YB Chang Lih Kang Minister of MOSTI and supervised by the Academy of Science Malaysia MOSTI is given to only one young researcher per year, from over 100 applications this year
