15.3.5 – Collaboration for Shared Land Ecosystems
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) actively collaborates with local communities, government agencies, and national organizations, including the National Botanical Garden, to maintain and preserve shared land ecosystems. Through these partnerships, UKM strengthens its commitment to biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, and community engagement. Joint initiatives led by UKM Pusat Pengurusan Landskap (PPL) and partner organizations include reforestation projects, native species conservation, and sustainable agriculture practices. These collaborative efforts align with UKM commitment to the 100% implementation of SDG 15: Life on Land, emphasizing a holistic approach to ecosystem restoration and sustainable land use education. UKM prioritizes community involvement and environmental stewardship by facilitating workshops, field activities, and awareness campaigns to empower local communities as key stakeholders in land conservation. This active engagement helps ensure the long-term resilience and health of Malaysia’s ecosystems.

1. CSR Green Project CSR in Zoo Negara
The CSR Green Project CSR in Zoo Negara Program organized by the Burhanuddin Helmi Residential College UKM was held on 1 June 2024 involving 40 participants. The aim of this program was to promote environmental awareness and wildlife conservation by engaging students in hands-on volunteer work and improve the living conditions of animals by maintaining clean and well-kept enclosures. The Zoocare Volunteers Program plays a vital role in supporting Zoo Negara’s efforts in wildlife conservation, sustainable zoo management, and public education on environmental responsibility. Through hands-on volunteer work, participants gain valuable experience in animal care, environmental sustainability, and community service. By aligning with SDG 15: Life on Land, this initiative highlights the importance of protecting biodiversity and ensuring a clean, safe, and sustainable habitat for animals.

2. Tree Planting & Collecting Waste While Recreation (KUDAH)
On 24 August 2024, the Tree Planting & Collecting Waste While Recreation (KUDAH) was organized by The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB) UKM. The tree planting and cleanup while exercising (KUDAH) program at Denai Sungai Langat not only strengthened the spirit of volunteerism among participants but also contributed to environmental conservation efforts and Malaysia’s low-carbon initiative. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to preserving river ecosystems and their surroundings. With support from various organizations, including FoRM, SUTRA UKM, LUAS, JAS, and Etika, the participants worked together to clean the trail area and planted 100 tree saplings along a one-kilometer stretch of the river trail as part of the 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign initiative.Beyond enhancing the beauty of the riverside trail, this initiative also promotes a healthier lifestyle and raises environmental awareness among the public.

3. Sulam Asli-Pimpin 2024 Program– Jalinan Mesra Watan @ Chini
The Tasik Chini Research Center (PPTC) ALAF-UKM received 52 students from CITRA-UKM and the Permata Remaja Program on 5 – 7 January 2024 for the program, together with 40 underprivileged B40 teenagers from the People’s Housing Program (PPR). Various activities were carried out including replanting forest trees, and a visit to Orang Asli homes. Other than that other activities such as sports and recreation, makeup competitions, karaoke competitions, free markets, weaving and chopstick demonstrations and parenting talks were also conducted.
The Tasik Cini Primary School’s Parent & Teacher Association (PIBG) and the Pahang State Forestry Department also contributed and provided a lot of assistance to make the program a success.

4. CSR Programme: Greener Faculty of Economic and Management (UKM)
On 12 May 2024, the Faculty of Economics and Management organized a program of corporate social responsibility (CSR) titled “GREENER FEP” held at the Faculty of Economics and Management. This program is organized by the Management Club of the Faculty of Economics and Management and aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment among students and faculty staff. The program had successfully planted 180 trees around the Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM. Through various activities carried out, this program emphasizes green practices and environmental sustainability, in addition to fostering a spirit of cooperation and social responsibility among participants. Activities that were carried out included planting trees, cleaning the area around the faculty, and lecture sessions about the importance of sustainable practices. The CSR: GREENER FEP program is not only successful in achieving its objective of educating participants about the environment but also reinforces the relationship between faculty members and the local community
