Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

5.3 – Student access measures

5.3.1 – Tracking Access Measures

UKM systematically tracks women’s application and acceptance rates. In 2024, the university maintained a strong focus on gender equality, with 67.08% of applications coming from women and an impressive 65.67% of those accepted being female. This represents a significant increase compared to previous years, namely 2022 and 2023. In 2022, the percentage of female student applications was 60.79%, while in 2023, it rose slightly to 61.87%. Although the number of applications shows an increasing trend from 2022 to 2024, the percentage of women accepted shows consistently high across all three years. It shows 66% of applications in 2022, slightly lower to 65.29% of applications in 2023 and increased slightly to 65.67% in 2024.

This steady acceptance rate, with more than 65% of admitted students being women in 2024, underscores UKM’s ongoing commitment to SDG 5. Despite fluctuations in overall applications, UKM has ensured that women continue to make up a substantial portion of its student body, demonstrating a consistent prioritization of gender equality in admissions over the years. The positive trend in 2024 highlights UKM’s proactive approach in fostering educational opportunities for women.
