RHB Ocean Harmoni: Marine Literacy for a Sustainable Future
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), in collaboration with RHB Islamic Bank Berhad, organized the RHB Ocean Harmoni Marine Literacy Programme in Kuala Besut as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
Led by the Centre for Student Affairs (HEP-UKM), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and UKM Zakat Centre, the programme aimed to raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation and encourage collective action to protect marine ecosystems.
Activities included beach clean-ups, underwater waste collection, and ocean literacy education for school students and local communities. Over 30 kg of waste, mainly plastic bottles and containers, were collected, alongside the removal of ghost nets that threaten coral reefs and marine life.
The initiative involved 57 participants including UKM staff, students, industry representatives, and local residents — all working together to safeguard the ocean for future generations.
