SSEDAR Program Strengthens Slope Sustainability Awareness in Cameron Highlands
The Slope Sustainability and Bangi Botanical Garden Group, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), organized the SSEDAR – Slope Sustainability Farmer Engagement Discourse for Actionable Realization program to raise awareness among farmers on sustainable slope management in Cameron Highlands.
The program highlighted the use of bioengineering techniques using local plant species as an eco-friendly alternative to control erosion and reduce landslide risks in hilly farming areas.
Through talks, practical workshops, and field demonstrations, participants learned simple, science-based methods that can be applied in their farms. The initiative was supported by MARDI, the Department of Agriculture, the Forestry Department, and Pahang Corporation Sdn. Bhd., and funded by UNESCO under the SKUM Grant (GSS).
This initiative aims to serve as a catalyst for safer and more sustainable slope farming practices in Cameron Highlands.
